Many seabirds are rehabilitated annually by wildlife rehabilitation centers along the Pacific Coast, USA. Although various strains of zoonotic bacteria have been isolated from seabirds, risks to rehabilitators at these centers have not been well documented. Several existing measures of medical outcomes and some newly constructed measures of patient satisfaction were tested for reliability and validity on a sample of 100 subjects who had suffered work-related injuries and illnesses in Washington State. We observed a sharp rise in invasive nontypeable Haemophilus influenzae disease at a tertiary medical center in Washington, DC. Nine adults presented over 9 months with severe illness, with both clonal and nonclonal strains identified by genome sequencing. Firefighters face many hazards on the job and have a high rate of work-related injuries and illnesses (WRII). We analyzed Washington workers' compensation claims from 2006-2020 to characterize WRII in firefighters compared to law enforcement officers and "all other" workers. There were 9187 compensable claims for firefighters, 7801 for law enforcement officers, and 586,939 for "all other" workers. People who use drugs are highly marginalized communities and are disproportionately affected by environmental changes-e.g., neighborhood gentrification-that affect housing availability and stability, particularly in urban locations. These changes could negatively affect individuals' access to and utilization of health care and social services, resulting in poorer health outcomes. This study examined the impact of gentrification and housing instability on drug users' access to harm reduction and other health services. Data were collected from 139 clients of a large harm reduction organization.

UNLABELLED: Most fatal drownings worldwide occur in open water. Flotation devices may protect swimmers. Their use by those recreating in water has not been described.

METHODS: Data were analyzed from the 2010 Washington State Healthy Youth Survey of 8th, 10th, and 12th grade public school students.
