Depression and anxiety were revealed in 40 of 56 patients with vascular parkinsonism; irritability up to dysphoria was observed in 29 patients. The treatment included administration of DOPA drugs (nakom and madopar) and cholinolytics (benactyzin, methylbenactyzin). A study covering 277 psychopathic patients has been aimed at specifying the notion of psychopathy as well as the criteria of its diagnosis with the help of follow-up findings. Psychopathies are considered as a transient status of protracted adaptation due to retardation of the pubertal period. A long-term experiment was conducted to study various aspects of the pathogenesis of persistent and chronic tick-borne encephalitis (TBE). Virological, serological, pathomorphological, electron microscopic and immunofluorescent techniques have been utilized in this study. A total of 137 patients with a history of focal and meningeal forms of tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) were examined in the period from 1 to 7 years after the acute stage of the disease. Having examined 77 patients with neurosyphilis the authors diagnosed early neurosyphilis (chronic cerebrospinal syphilitic meningitis and cerebrospinal syphilis) in 22 patients and late neurosyphilis (tabes dorsalis) in 55 patients. Early neurosyphilis was characterized by affective volitional, asthenic, and hypochondriac disorders, whereas late neurosyphilis was manifested in neurosis-like disturbances, partial and total dementia and hallucinational paranoid syndrome. The main principles of forensic psychiatric medical examination of this group of patients are outlined.

The study of somatosensory evoked potentials (SSEP) in patients with trigeminal neuralgia made it possible to elucidate their characteristic changes as compared to those in healthy subjects. After a course of acupuncture 75% of the patients showed correlation between some parameters of SSEP and positive clinical results. The authors discuss pathophysiological mechanisms of impairment of cortico-subcortical interactions in patients with trigeminal neuralgia and analyze the possibility of using SSEP for dynamic evaluation of the brain status in the process of treatment.

Acupuncture was used in 82 patients with trigeminal neuralgila. In 17 patients trigeminal neuralgia was predominantly of the central and in 65 of the peripheral genesis. Selection of points for acupuncture was based on the findings about electrical conductivity of symmetrical acupuncture points on the patient's face. The study has shown that the method of acupuncture in patients with trigeminal neuralgia should be used differentially. It is effective only in patients with peripheral trigeminal neuralgia.

Using highly purified antibodies to cerebral alpha 2-globulin (alpha 2-B) the authors have developed a procedure for enzyme immunoassay of this antigen in biological fluids. Blood sera of 15 children with Tourette's syndrome were examined by this method. The levels of alpha 2-B and the clinical picture of the disease were found to correlate, which makes it possible to use an assay of alpha 2-B as a laboratory test for the diagnosis of Tourette's syndrome and for the monitoring of its treatment.
