A new surgical approach (subadventitial cystectomy) has been developed for liver hydatid disease. We retrospectively compared clinical outcomes and immune status 24 months after a subadventitial cystectomy with traditional surgical approaches. Patients with liver hydatid cysts were treated with a subadventitial cystectomy (N = 11), pericystectomy (N = 16), partial pericystectomy (N = 18), or hepatic resection (N = 12). OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the clinical presentation and early and long-term outcomes of patients treated surgically for intraperitoneal ruptured liver hydatid cysts.
METHODS: The medical records of 21 patients with rupture of hydatid cysts were evaluated retrospectively between January 2000 and April 2009 at Izmir Ataturk Training and Research Hospital, Izmir, Turkey, as were the records of 368 patients with hydatid cysts. Age, gender, symptoms, laboratory findings, diagnostic procedures, surgical treatment modalities, in-hospital stay, morbidity, mortality, and recurrence were evaluated.

Lesions of the groin include hernia, hydrocele, spermatic cord cyst, undescended testes, lymphadenopathy, and abscess. Hydatid cysts are endemic in certain regions of the world. They are usually located in the liver, lung, spleen, brain, and kidney. Although many uncommon locations have been reported, hydatid disease has been reported 3 times in the spermatic cord. This is the first report of a child with hydatid disease in the spermatic cord. A 9-year-old boy with a spermatic cord cyst proven to be a hydatid cyst is reported.

Four Indian patients with occipital lesions of cysticercosis presented with visual hallucinations. Neuro-ophthalmic and systemic examinations were normal in all cases except for one patient who had a partial homonymous hemianopia. Electroencephalography was normal in all cases. Neuroimaging revealed ring-enhancing lesions in the occipital lobe typical of neurocysticercosis. In endemic regions like India, neurocysticercosis should be suspected in patients presenting with visual hallucinations, even when there are no other clinical findings.
