Impact of chronic REM sleep deprivation on glucose homeostasis, insulin sensitivity, oxidative stress, and histological changes in adult male Wistar rats.

Sleep deprivation (SD) is a potential risk factor for the development of various metabolic disorders, including type 2 diabetes (T2D). In humans, SD has been associated with impaired glucose metabolism. To date, the link between chronic sleep deprivation (CSD) and glucose homeostasis remains unclear. To better understand the underlying mechanisms, we investigated the impact of chronic REM-SD on glucose homeostasis, insulin sensitivity, and physiological functions in Wistar rats, as well as on markers of oxidative stress and histopathological changes observed in organs. Eighteen adult male Wist

Bromocriptine in type 2 diabetes: a promising alternative, a systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a chronic condition driven by insulin resistance and impaired beta-cell function. As beta cells gradually lose function, blood glucose levels rise, leading to clinical diabetes. This condition also elevates the risk of cardiovascular complications. Treatment typically requires multiple medications with different mechanisms of action. Recent developments include bromocriptine, a dopamine agonist approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for type 2 diabetes, which has been shown to reduce plasma glucose, triglycerides, and free fatty acid levels.

Plaat1l1 controls feeding induced NAPE biosynthesis and contributes to energy balance regulation in zebrafish.

Dysregulation of energy balance leading to obesity is a significant risk factor for cardiometabolic diseases such as diabetes, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and atherosclerosis. In rodents and several other vertebrates, feeding has been shown to induce a rapid rise in the intestinal levels of N-acyl-ethanolamines (NAEs) and the chronic consumption of a high fat diet abolishes this rise. Administering NAEs to rodents consuming a high fat diet reduces their adiposity, in part by reducing food intake and enhancing fat oxidation, so that feeding-induced intestinal NAE biosynthesis appears to b

INhaled Sedation versus Propofol in REspiratory failure in the Intensive Care Unit (INSPiRE-ICU1): protocol for a randomised, controlled trial.

INTRODUCTION: Sedation in mechanically ventilated adults in the intensive care unit (ICU) is commonly achieved with intravenous infusions of propofol, dexmedetomidine or benzodiazepines. Significant limitations associated with each can impact their usage. Inhaled isoflurane has potential benefit for ICU sedation due to its safety record, sedation profile, lack of metabolism and accumulation, and fast wake-up time. Administration in the ICU has historically been restricted by the lack of a safe and effective delivery system for the ICU. The Sedaconda Anaesthetic Conserving Device-S (Sedaconda A

SAL0114: a novel deuterated dextromethorphan-bupropion combination with improved antidepressant efficacy and safety profile.

BACKGROUND: Esketamine, the first Food and Drug Administration-approved fast-acting antidepressant, has limited use because of its addictive properties. Although the combination of dextromethorphan and bupropion partially addresses the limitations of esketamine, concerns remain regarding neurologic side effects related to dextromethorphan metabolites, and seizure risks associated with high-dose bupropion. SAL0114, a novel formulation combining deuterated dextromethorphan (in which hydrogen atoms are replaced with deuterium) with bupropion, seeks to enhance dextromethorphan stability through de

Replacing Foods with a High-Glycemic Index and High in Saturated Fat by Alternatives with a Low Glycemic Index and Low Saturated Fat Reduces Hepatic Fat, Even in Isocaloric and Macronutrient Matched Conditions.

BACKGROUND: Current guidelines aim to limit the dietary glycemic index (GI) and intake of saturated fatty acids (SFA). Several studies have shown favorable effects of low-GI or low-SFA diets on intrahepatic lipid content (IHL), but these studies were performed under overfeeding conditions or extreme differences in GI or SFA to maximize the contrast between diets. By combining changes in GI and SFA, we can mimic how people can improve their diet in a realistic setting. OBJECTIVES: We investigated the effect on liver fat content and substrate metabolism of both reducing GI and replacing SFA wit
