BACKGROUND: Recurrence rates for toe deformity correction are high and primarily are attributable to scar contractures. These contractures may result from subclinical infection.
QUESTIONS/PURPOSES: We hypothesized that (1) recurrence of toe deformities and residual pain are related to low-grade infections from biofilm formation on percutaneous K wires, (2) biofilm formation is lower on titanium (Ti) K wires compared with stainless steel (SS) K wires, and (3) clinical outcome is superior with the use of Ti K wires compared with SS K wires.

The very rare isolated medial humeral condyle fractures in children and adolescents pose significant problems to orthopedic surgeons such as ulnar nerve injury, trochlear irregularities, fishtail deformity and motion loss. Acromioclavicular (AC) joint dislocations are common in young, active patients. In case of surgical indications, Rockwood type IV, type V and selected type III dislocation, we use modified Phemister procedure. At mid-term follow-up, by an average of 35.1 months, we reassessed the records of 14 patients surgically treated for acute AC dislocation from February 2007 to November 2010. This paper is a report on 25 autotransplantations of third molars with complete root formations. The study consists of 23 patients in whom 25 third molars were transplanted. Radial head replacement or ORIF are established treatment options for Mason type-III and type-IV fractures. The aim of this study was to provide results for reconstruction of these complex fractures using fine-threaded K-wires. We present results after reconstruction of 15 Mason type-III and 8 Mason type-IV fractures. Parameters used to describe the functional outcome were pain level, range of motion, and clinical scores. The authors present an original fixation technique for pediatric olecranon fractures that avoids reoperation to remove hardware as compared with the standard fixation technique with Kirschner wires and tension band wiring as advocated by the AO technique. OBJECTIVES: The indications for repair of pectus excavatum are controversial. We present our surgical results in children with severe pectus excavatum.
METHODS: 27 children aged 6-15-years were included in the study. Pulmonary function tests and chest measurements were performed pre- and postoperatively. Deformed cartilages were resected subperichondrially, and a Kirchner wire was used to support the chest cage; it was removed 5 days after the operation.
