Meckel's diverticulum (MD) is the most common congenital anomaly of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, affecting about 2% of the population. Most cases of Meckel's diverticula are asymptomatic. BACKGROUND: Delayed release budesonide was approved by the FDA for the treatment of mildly to moderately active Crohn's disease involving the ileum and ascending colon. OBJECTIVES: Crohn disease is a chronic inflammatory bowel disorder that is caused by environmental and genetic factors. Mutations in the CARD15 gene have been recently identified to be associated with the disease. Until now no genetic study has focused directly on a pediatric population.
