MorphiNet: A Graph Subdivision Network for Adaptive Bi-Ventricle Surface Reconstruction.

Cardiac Magnetic Resonance (CMR) imaging is widely used to personalize heart models for cardiac digital twin analysis because of its ability to visualize soft tissues and capture dynamic functions. However, CMR images have an anisotropic nature, characterized by large inter-slice distances and misalignments from cardiac motion. These limitations result in data loss and measurement inaccuracies, hindering the capture of detailed anatomical structures. In this work, we introduce MorphiNet, a novel network that reproduces heart anatomy learned from high-resolution Computed Tomography (CT) images,

Machine learning and automation methods for the segmentation, classification and quantification of testicular tissue sections.

ABSTRACT: Analysis of immunofluorescent images can be time-consuming and observer-dependant. We aimed to develop a standardised method for analysing immunofluorescent images of human and mouse testicular tissues using an existing software package. We used QuPath to train and apply an artificial neural network with multilayer perception (ANN-MLP) on images. We were able to automate the segmentation of cells in regions of interest (ROIs) using both StarDist (a convolution neural network) and Watershed image transformation. Segmented cells were classified using QuPath object classification system

Integrated deep learning model for multi-label retinal disease diagnosis.

The multi-label retinal disease classification is a difficult one since fundus images might comprise many co-occurring abnormalities, extreme in relation to the class, as well as significant lesion appearance variation. In order to deal with this issue, this paper suggests a combined deep learning architecture to diagnose retinal diseases automatically with the help of the MuReD dataset, which includes 2208 fundus images that were gathered at ARIA, STARE, and RFMiD and reformulated with 19 retinal disease labels, excluding the non-diagnostic category of OTHERS. The proposed model is based on a

Computational framework and machine learning approach to fractional order soil helminth infections disease model for control mechanism.

Soil-transmitted helminth (STH) infections are exceedingly common, estimated to afflict 1.5 billion individuals worldwide, or 24% of the total population. The aim of this work is to model the transmission dynamics of soil-transmitted helminth (STH) infections using fractional-order calculus integrated with machine learning to enhance prediction accuracy and control strategies. Specific fundamental characteristics like the non-negativity of solutions and the invariant region within where the model equations hold epidemiological significance. Equilibrium points and basic reproductive number are

W-AGRU-Net: a dual-stream attention framework for robust brain tumor segmentation in clinical MRI imaging.

Segmenting brain tumors from MRI scans is a challenging aspect of medical image analysis because of anatomical complexity, ambiguous tumor boundaries, and variability of shape. In this paper, we propose W-AGRU-Net, a new dual-stream U-Net framework that combines W-Attention mechanisms with residual connections for strong and accurate glioma segmentation. Our framework uses two asymmetric streams that have pyramid-shaped dilated convolution schemes (PDCS) for hierarchical multi-scale context capturing. The framework also includes residual units that utilize Squeeze-and-Excitation (SE) blocks fo

ISGAN: Unsupervised Domain Adaptation With Improved Symmetric GAN for Cross-Modality Multi-Organ Segmentation.

The differences between cross-modality medical images are significant, so several studies are working on unsupervised domain adaptation (UDA) segmentation, which aims to adapt a segmentation model trained on a labeled source domain to an unlabeled target domain. The conventional UDA segmentation strategy aims to integrate image generation and segmentation. However, conventional image generation modules only consider information from a single domain (source or target), resulting in visual inconsistencies. The image generation module may also lack anatomical constraints, leading to incorrect pse

A Lightweight Network With Uncertainty-Guided Latent Space Refinement for Multi-Modal Brain Tissue and Tumor Extraction.

Brain tissue and tumor extraction plays a pivotal role in medical care and clinical research. Leveraging the diverse and complementary information provided by different imaging modalities is crucial to the success of these applications. However, existing deep learning-based methods exhibit limitations in two major aspects. First, they ignore the incorporation of task-oriented regularization when fusing multi-modal features, leading to suboptimal latent space learning. Second, these methods tend to overlook the explicit modeling and exploitation of prediction uncertainty, despite the strong cor

Early detection of Alzheimer's disease progression stages using hybrid of CNN and transformer encoder models.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disorder that affects memory and cognitive functions. Manual diagnosis is prone to human error, often leading to misdiagnosis or delayed detection. MRI techniques help visualize the fine tissues of the brain cells, indicating the stage of disease progression. Artificial intelligence techniques analyze MRI with high accuracy and extract subtle features that are difficult to diagnose manually. In this study, a modern methodology was designed that combines the power of CNN models (ResNet101 and GoogLeNet) to extract local deep features and the power

Gabor-modulated depth separable convolution for retinal vessel segmentation in fundus images.

BACKGROUND: In diabetic retinopathy, precise segmentation of retinal vessels is essential for accurate diagnosis and effective disease management. This task is particularly challenging due to the varying sizes of vessels, their bifurcations, and the presence of highly curved segments. While numerous automated segmentation techniques have demonstrated strong performance, deep neural networks have struggled to effectively model the geometric transformations of retinal vessels without extensive training datasets. Moreover, the inconsistent quality of fundus photographs often results in less than

Deep Learning-Enabled Diagnosis of Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Using Pulse Volume Recording Waveforms: An In Silico Study.

This paper investigates the feasibility of diagnosing abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) via deep learning (DL)-enabled analysis of non-invasive arterial pulse waveform signals. We generated arterial blood pressure (BP) and pulse volume recording (PVR) waveform signals across a diverse synthetic patient cohort using a systemic arterial circulation model coupled with a viscoelastic model relating arterial BP to PVR while simulating a range of AAA severity levels. We confirmed the plausibility of the synthetic data by comparing the alterations in the simulated waveform signals due to AAA against pr

Diffusion based multi-domain neuroimaging harmonization method with preservation of anatomical details.

In multi-center neuroimaging studies, the technical variability caused by the batch differences could hinder the ability to aggregate data across sites, and negatively impact the reliability of study-level results. Recent efforts in neuroimaging harmonization have aimed to minimize these technical gaps and reduce technical variability across batches. While Generative Adversarial Networks (GAN) has been a prominent method for addressing harmonization tasks, GAN-harmonized images suffer from artifacts or anatomical distortions. Given the advancements of denoising diffusion probabilistic model wh

Machine learning-enabled estimation of cardiac output from peripheral waveforms is independent of blood pressure measurement location in an in silico population.

Monitoring of cardiac output (CO) is a mainstay of hemodynamic management in the acutely or critically ill patient. Invasive determination of CO using thermodilution, albeit regarded as the gold standard, is cumbersome and bears risks inherent to catheterization. In the pursuit of noninvasive methods, prediction of CO from arterial pressure waveforms (even uncalibrated) through AI has garnered increased attention. In the current study we investigate the effect of peripheral blood pressure measurements' (i) location, (ii) calibration and (iii) injected additive noise on the performance of AI-ba
