Some factors predict successful short-term outcomes in individuals with shoulder pain receiving cervicothoracic manipulation: a single-arm trial.

BACKGROUND: It has been reported that manipulative therapy directed at the cervical and thoracic spine may improve outcomes in patients with shoulder pain. To date, limited data are available to help physical therapists determine which patients with shoulder pain may experience changes in pain and disability following the application of these interventions. OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to identify prognostic factors from the history and physical examination in individuals with shoulder pain who are likely to experience rapid improvement in pain and disability following cervical an

Preoperative hyperglycemia within 24 hours of surgery is associated with adverse outcomes after rotator cuff repair.

BACKGROUND: Rotator cuff repair (RCR) is a common orthopedic procedure that relies on proper tendon healing for good outcomes. While hyperglycemia is known to worsen outcomes in other surgeries, its effects on RCR remain underexplored. We investigated whether preoperative hyperglycemia is associated with increased complication rates following RCR using a large, multi-institutional database. METHODS: Using the TriNetX Research Network, we identified patients who underwent primary RCR between May 2005 and May 2024. Patients were divided into two cohorts based on preoperative glucose within 24 h

Research trends of platelet-rich plasma application in orthopaedics from 2002 to 2020: a bibliometric analysis.

BACKGROUND: Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has been widely used to treat various orthopaedic diseases, and there are a large number of studies on the matter. However, there have been no bibliometric reports on the publications in this field. Bibliometrics is an excellent method to systematically evaluate the current research status of a specific field. In this study, CiteSpace 5.7.R2 software was used to analyse the status, hotspots, and frontiers of PRP in the treatment of orthopaedic diseases in the past 19 years. METHODS: All articles about the application of PRP in orthopaedics from 2002 to 2

Unexpected False-positive I-131 Uptake in Patients with Differentiated Thyroid Carcinoma.

OBJECTIVE: Radioiodine is the most specific radionuclide for differentiated thyroid carcinoma (DTC) imaging. Despite its high specificity and sensitivity, false-positive I-131 uptake could be seen on whole body scan (WBS) that may lead to misdiagnosis and unnecessary radioiodine treatment. In this study, we aimed to present the I-131 WBS and concomitant single photon emission computed tomography/computed tomography (SPECT/CT) images of unexpected false-positive radioiodine uptake along with the patients’ clinical outcomes and the contribution of SPECT/CT imaging. METHODS: I-131 WBSs of 1507 p

Early promising outcome following arthroscopic implantation of the subacromial balloon spacer for treating massive rotator cuff tear.

BACKGROUND: Massive rotator cuff tear (RCT) can result in disability and severe pain. When conservative treatment fails, surgical treatment should be considered, as various surgical options can provide relatively satisfactory results. However, choosing an optimal treatment remains controversial. A relatively new treatment for irreparable RCT is the arthroscopic implantation of a biodegradable balloon spacer into the subacromial space. Here, we examined whether placement of this balloon spacer reduces pain and improves functional outcome in patients with an irreparable RCT. Patients were follow

SECEC Grammont Award 2025: the resting arm position influences impingement-free range of motion and the distalization and lateralization shoulder angle in reverse shoulder arthroplasty using Imascap preoperative planning software.

BACKGROUND: Preoperative planning software enables virtual implantation of reverse total shoulder arthroplasty (rTSA) and assessment of impingement-free range of motion (ROM). Recent studies have shown that scapular resting position varies significantly among individuals and impacts impingement-free ROM. The resting position of the arm also varies between individuals, yet its impact on simulated outcomes and whether this parameter should be integrated into planning programs remains unclear. The objective of this study was to assess the effect of the resting arm position in the coronal plane on
