INTRODUCTION: Primary omental torsion (POT) is an uncommon acute condition, often occurring in obese children. The clinical presentation usually mimics that of acute appendicitis, and preoperative radiologic imaging may not be helpful in the diagnosis. In this paper, we report our experience of using laparoscopy in diagnosing and treating POT in children.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A retrospective review of all cases of POT from 1998 to 2006 was performed. The efficacy and safety of using the laparoscope in the management of omental torsion was assessed.

BACKGROUND: Prenatal small-bowel obstruction can result from single or multiple atresias, and it can be an isolated abnormality or part of a syndrome. It is sometimes the first manifestation of cystic fibrosis. Accurate prediction of the level of obstruction and length of bowel affected can be difficult, presenting a challenge for counseling families and planning perinatal management.
OBJECTIVE: To review the prenatal US and MRI findings of small-bowel obstruction and to assess whether fetal MRI adds information that could improve prenatal counseling and perinatal management.

In patients with intestinal malrotation, Ladd bands are known to cause obstruction of the duodenum and small bowel. However, acute obstruction of the colon from Ladd bands has not been previously described. We report a case of complete obstruction of the hepatic flexure of the colon secondary to a Ladd band in a previously healthy teenage boy.

BACKGROUND: Adult intussusception is a rare clinical condition. Unlike in pediatric cases, adult intussusception often has a definable lead point, with benign or malignant tumors being the most common etiology. Small intestinal lipoma is a rare cause of adult intussusception. It typically presents with non-specific symptoms and an insidious onset, frequently leading to misdiagnosis or discovery only during emergency surgery. Abdominal computed tomography (CT) plays a pivotal role in preoperative diagnosis, yet its specific findings in lipoma-induced intussusception warrant further emphasis.

BACKGROUND: Clostridioides difficile infection is associated with antibiotic use and manifests as diarrhea; however, emerging cases of fulminant diarrhea caused by binary toxin-producing C. difficile unrelated to prior antibiotic exposure have been reported.
