A certain disparity between the neurological and pathomorphological manifestations of osteochondrosis is reviewed. The authors substantiate the necessity of dividing the dystrophic process in the motor lumbar segment into two phases: 1) the involvement of the disk alone ( diskosis or chondrosis ) and 2) the involvement of both disk and adjacent vertebrae (osteochondrosis). The roentgenological diagnosis of these pathological phases is offered. The question of differentiating the mechanical injuries to the intervertebral disk from osteochondrosis is discussed.

The collective diagnosis of humeroscapular periarthritis (HSP) may imply a number of diseases different both in the genesis (inflammation, a degenerative process, trauma, cervical osteochondrosis) and localization (tendons of the humeral short rotators, biceps, synovial sheaths, bursae, etc.). A large proportion of HSPs are inveterate lesions of musculus interspinalis requiring surgical intervention. Despite the analogous pattern of many clinical symptoms, close collaboration of neuropathologists and traumatologists may allow the differential diagnosis of primary and secondary HSPs.

Using a new method of radionuclide diagnosis (monophoton emission computer-aided tomography), the authors examined 89 patients with vascular, inflammatory and sizable lesions of the brain and 16 clinically healthy subjects. The method was found to be valuable for obtaining a three-dimensional image of the pathological changes in the brain, for specifying the localization of these changes and their pathomorphological basis. Eighty-six women of the menopausal age with neurotic and neurosis-like disturbances in the presence of the disrupted menstrual cycle were followed up at the Kazan psychoneurological outpatient centre. Out of the total number, 32 cases of masked depression in the framework of cyclothymia imitating climacteric disorders were ascertained. The author specifies the clinical characteristics of endogenic masked depression and the diagnostic criteria allowing its differentiation from climacteric neurosis.

One to 38 years after the disease onset follow-up examinations were carried out involving 311 survivors of acute tick-borne encephalitis (TBE). Subjects from different regions of the Soviet Union were examined. Three forms of acute period were identified: focal (FTBE), meningeal (MTBE) and pyretic (PTBE). The main clinical varieties of spinal cord and equine tail tumors are reviewed. Of 221 cases, the progressive course of the disease was recorded in 76,9%, slow-progressive course was observed in 68,1% and rapid-progressive in 8,8% of cases. It is stressed that in the presence of the progressive course of the disease there may occur different manifestations of the tumorous process of the spinal cord, the examination of which makes it possible to improve the diagnosis, particularly in the early stage of the spinal oncological process.

For studying the mechanisms of spasticity electromyographic examinations were carried out in 54 patients suffering from lateral amyotrophic sclerosis at various stages of the disease. The peculiarities of consciousness disturbances in 289 patients with grave brain stroke were studied. Eight informative clinical syndromes, including the awakeness level, brain stem reflex functions as well as vegetative-visceral functions were described. Two levels and eleven corresponding to them phases of damaged consciousness were singled out. The scale of quantitative estimation of each phase of the consciousness damage was established for practical use by the computer method of plural step by step regression; dynamics of phases was shown also.

Psychopathlike equivalents of depression in 56 patients aged 10 to 16 years are described. Schizophrenics (50) made up the main group of clinical observations while in six cases, the diagnosis of psychopathlike equivalents of depression associated with diseases of residual-organic nature was made.
