INTRODUCTION: Few cases of mercury sequestration in the appendix appear in the literature. Based on these, both prophylactic appendectomy and non-surgical management have been recommended. We report a case in which a patient with mercury retained in the appendix was managed conservatively without developing mercurialism or appendicitis.

BACKGROUND: Pure, benign epidermoid cysts of the abdominal viscera are rare. There have been only four reports of epidermoid cysts of the cecum in the literature, two following appendectomies and attributed to the surgical procedure, and two in female patients, raising the possibility of dermoid cysts related to the ovaries.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: We report the first case of epidermoid cyst of the cecum in an elderly man with no previous history of trauma or surgery, detected by computed tomography as an incidental finding of extraluminal cystic cecal mass. It was treated by partial colectomy.

BACKGROUND/AIMS: The decision to operate on a patient with acute abdominal pain comes to the mind of the surgeon if routine investigations fail to identify the cause. A negative laparotomy may have complications, while laparoscopy appears to be a valuable way to improve the accuracy of diagnosis of acute abdominal pain and offers a promising modality of treatment.
