Experiences and perspectives of older adults in nursing homes and their families participating in advance care planning: a meta-synthesis of qualitative studies.

BACKGROUND: Against the backdrop of an increasingly aging global population, improving the quality of life and end-of-life care for older adults has become a critical public health concern. Advance care planning(ACP) offers potential benefits, including enhancing the quality of end-of-life care, reducing unnecessary medical interventions, and alleviating the burden on family members. However, in the unique context of nursing homes, the willingness and actual participation of residents and their families in ACP are influenced by various factors. AIM: This systematic review and meta-synthesis a

An artificial intelligence model for detecting pathological lymph node metastasis in prostate cancer using whole slide images: a retrospective, multicentre, diagnostic study.

BACKGROUND: The pathological examination of lymph node metastasis (LNM) is crucial for treating prostate cancer (PCa). However, the limitations with naked-eye detection and pathologist workload contribute to a high missed-diagnosis rate for nodal micrometastasis. We aimed to develop an artificial intelligence (AI)-based, time-efficient, and high-precision PCa LNM detector (ProCaLNMD) and evaluate its clinical application value. METHODS: In this multicentre, retrospective, diagnostic study, consecutive patients with PCa who underwent radical prostatectomy and pelvic lymph node dissection at fi

Oocyte activation deficiency and assisted oocyte activation: mechanisms, obstacles and prospects for clinical application.

BACKGROUND: Oocyte activation deficiency (OAD) is attributed to the majority of cases underlying failure of ICSI cycles, the standard treatment for male factor infertility. Oocyte activation encompasses a series of concerted events, triggered by sperm-specific phospholipase C zeta (PLCζ), which elicits increases in free cytoplasmic calcium (Ca2+) in spatially and temporally specific oscillations. Defects in this specific pattern of Ca2+ release are directly attributable to most cases of OAD. Ca2+ release can be clinically mediated via assisted oocyte activation (AOA), a combination of mechanic

Mapping Intrusive and Non-Intrusive Ultrasound Technologies and Devices Used in Vaginal Examinations During Intrapartum: A Scoping Review.

Background: Technology like ultrasonography (US) has revolutionised the process of measuring cervical dilatation, cervical elasticity, station, and position of the foetal head to assess progress of labour. Ultrasound (US) is deemed non-traumatic, accurate, and user-friendly, offering an objective alternative to traditional vaginal examination (VE). Alternative methods such as position-tracking systems with fingertip sensors have shown limited precision, despite their widespread use. Additionally, US technologies have not been shown to measure effacement, caput, and moulding, as compared to VE.

Working with circular data: A tutorial for cognitive and behavioral research.

Introductory statistics courses and conventional methods in behavioral and cognitive science are typically restricted to Euclidean space without explicitly stating this, leaving many researchers unaware of how to handle data with circular or periodic properties (e.g., time of day or orientation on a screen). This tutorial provides an accessible yet rigorous introduction, designed to bridge the gap between statistical theory and practical application. After discussing different ways of representing circular data mathematically and fundamental principles for working with them, we explain angular
