A 44-year-old man presented with a solitary plasmocytoma in the left mandible. After neoadjuvant radiation therapy and chemotherapy, a bone marrow biopsy was taken for cryopreservation. Along with the rising AIDS epidemic, the recognition of mucocutaneous lesions indicating HIV infection is important not only for dermatologists but also for general practitioners. During 36 months we prospectively followed 357 HIV-1-infected patients on a regular base, and all the dermatologic findings were evaluated statistically. Several skin problems such as seborrheic dermatitis, may occur early in HIV infection. Mollusca contagiosa, oral hairy leukoplakia and Kaposi's sarcoma are often clinical signs of marked disease progression with very low CD4-cell counts.

OBJECTIVES: Surgery for benign parotid tumours is associated with potential sequelae which may significantly deteriorate patient's quality of life. Sometimes the pursuit of reducing the risk of these complications induces surgeon to limit the extent of the parotid gland removed with a tumour. This may lead to a decrease in tumour local control which is especially true for pleomorphic adenoma. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the incidence of complications after certain types of parotid surgery for primary pleomorphic adenomas and to analyse risk factors related to their occurrence.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this clinical report was to present and discuss the clinical procedure and the treatment considerations of prosthetic rehabilitation for hemimaxillectomy patients.
DESIGN: A 61-year-old man was successfully treated with all the remaining teeth reconstruction including replacing the implant-supported anterior fixed prosthesis and maxillary obturator.
CONCLUSIONS: An appropriate obturator design, remaining teeth reconstruction, and establishment of a proper vertical dimension of occlusion are important for acceptable facial appearance and patient satisfaction.

Relations between first branchial cleft anomalies and the facial nerve vary. We reviewed 41 patients' medical records and pathological sections to clarify the relation, and found that those on the right side in young patients, which were Work type II and situated low down, were likely to be deep to the facial nerve.

We studied the incidence of Frey's syndrome and facial contour deformity in two groups of patients who had undergone superficial parotidectomy. One group was made up of 12 patients who were randomized to undergo reconstruction of the surgical defect with a sternocleidomastoid muscle flap; the other 12 patients did not receive a flap.
