OBJECTIVE: To find a fast and simple method for detection of specific pathogens in upper aerodigestive tract.
METHODS: Sixty-one cases of specific infections in upper aerodigestive tract encountered during a 10-year period in Beijing Tongren Hospital were retrospectively studied. Six histochemical stains, including PAS, Giemsa, Gram, methylene blue, modified Warthin-Starry and acid-fast stains were applied. The purpose of the present investigation was to examine the effect of SRP on clinical and microbiological parameters in 57 subjects with adult periodontitis (mean age 47 +/- 11 years). Six patients with secondary syphilis and one control subject were observed over a period of up to 8 hr following the administration of either penicillin or erythromycin. Serial clinical observations were made and blood samples obtained for complement and serological analysis. OBJECTIVE: We aimed to asses if there are differences in the clinical presentation and immune response of repeat as compared with initial syphilis.
METHODS: Prospective study: we prospectively recruited all patients with a new diagnosis of syphilis and tested their plasma for a range of cytochemokines and rapid plasma reagin (RPR) at baseline pretreatment and 6 months following therapy. Retrospective study: we compared RPR assay response kinetics between initial and repeat syphilis in persons attending our HIV/STI clinic from 1993 to 2016.

INTRODUCTION: Syphilis is reemerging in certain populations, such as in men who have sex with men in particular. Oral manifestations are not uncommon and can render diagnosis difficult, particularly if occurring in isolation.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: We recovered clinical data for all patients receiving a diagnosis of secondary syphilis who were referred to the National Reference Center for Syphilis in Paris, France, from January 2000 to July 2019. We selected patients presenting oral symptoms only and analyzed their general characteristics, time to diagnosis, and clinical presentations.
