The determination of various volatiles in postmortem blood samples has been reported in many previous studies. The catabolism of propane by "Nocardia paraffinicum" (Rhodococcus rhodochrous) has been shown to involve CO(2) fixation after its oxidation to propionic acid. "N. paraffinicum" failed to grow on either propane or 1-propanol in the absence of CO(2). The enantiomeric separation of cetirizine and oxfendazole on a Chiralpak AD column using subcritical fluid chromatography has been studied in this work. Mice of the high-ethanol selecting C57BL/6j strain consume significantly larger amounts of 10% solution of 1,2-propanediol and 1-propanol than the low-ethanol selecting DBA/2j strain. Both strains uniformly avoid a 10% solution of 1,3-propanediol and 2-propanol. Open field activity was tested 30 min after an IP injection of 3 different equimolar doses of each alcohol. Aflatoxins are toxic secondary metabolites produced by some aspergilli, including Aspergillus flavus. Recently, ethanol has attracted attention as an agent for the control of aflatoxin contamination. Quinolylmethylisothioronium salts (1a and 4a) cleave DNA upon irradiation. The cleavage is more than 10-fold enhanced by piperidine treatment and subsequently shows a high preference for guanines. The effect of urea, isopropanol, propan-1-ol, and butan-1-ol on PCR using three different DNA polymerases was investigated. In the presence of these agents, polymerases were active as expected up to a critical concentration where they became progressively inhibited. Critical concentrations of alcohols generally increased with thermoresistance of the polymerases and decreased with the hydrophobicity of the alcohols. The volatile organic compound composition (VOCs) of printing press air was found to contain mostly ethanol, but also ethyl acetate, 1-propanol, 2-propanol, 1-methoxy-2-propanol and 3-ethoxy-1-propanol. Reversed-phase high performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC) of protein on large pore silica (20-30 nm) n-alkyl-bonded(C4 and C5) phase columns was studied using a trifluoroacetic acid (TFA)/2-propanol mobile phase system. The influence of concentration of organic modifier (2-propanol) and ion-pairing acid (TFA) on the protein retention time was examined. The results showed that the plot of the retention time vs-2-propanol concentration in mobile phase was U-shaped. The mechanism of protein in reversed-phase high performance liquid chromatography is also discussed.

The equilibrium solubility at 25 degrees C of alpha-cyclodextrin was measured in several binary aqueous-organic solvent mixtures, the organic cosolvents being methanol, 2-propanol, ethylene glycol, and acetone.
