Differences in Anthropometric and Clinical Features among Preschoolers, School-Age Children, and Adolescents with Obstructive Sleep Apnea-A Hospital-Based Study in Taiwan.

Pediatric obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is associated with adverse health outcomes; however, little is known about the diversity of this population. This retrospective study aims to investigate age-related differences in the anthropometric and clinical features of this population. A total of 253 Taiwanese children (70 (27.7%) girls and 183 (72.3%) boys) with OSA were reviewed. Their median age, body mass index (BMI) z-score, and apnea-hypopnea index were 6.9 years, 0.87, and 9.5 events/h, respectively. The cohort was divided into three subgroups: 'preschoolers' (≥2 and <6 years), 'school-age c

Help-seeking behaviours, opportunistic treatment and psychological implications of adolescent acne: cross-sectional studies in schools and hospital outpatient departments in the UK.

BACKGROUND: Acne vulgaris (acne) is a common adolescent skin condition. It is associated with negative psychological impacts and sufferers do not easily seek help, hence is undertreated. OBJECTIVES: We investigated the self-reported prevalence, severity and psychological sequelae of acne, together with assessing help-seeking behaviour and its barriers, in separate school and hospital samples. We explored opportunistic treatment by paediatricians. METHODS: Self-reported survey with participants drawn from: (1) 120 adolescents aged 13-18 in a London tertiary paediatric outpatient department an

Aripiprazole use combined with depot antipsychotic medication: two cases demonstrating its ability to reduce prolactin levels in an adolescent forensic hospital.

Many patients maintained on depot medication have raised prolactin levels, which can lead to a range of long-term medical problems. The addition of aripiprazole can reduce prolactin levels and restore sexual function in these patients. The cases described demonstrate the potential role of aripiprazole in a forensic setting.

Trajectories of change in body mass index during inpatient treatment for severe anorexia nervosa during adolescence: predictive factors and hospitalization outcomes.

BACKGROUND: Weight restoration is one of the main goals of treatment for AN. Weight trajectories derive from various elements including baseline personal characteristics and factors linked to the course of treatment. The aim of our research was to identify different BMI trajectories during inpatient treatment, to examine whether patient characteristics were predictive of the nature of these trajectories, and to examine how they affect hospitalization outcomes. METHODS: The study population consisted of 310 female AN inpatients. To analyse the data, we examined trajectories of change in BMI, u

Qualitative inquiry into adolescents' experience of ethical challenges during enrollment and adherence to antiretroviral therapy (ART) in Temeke Regional Referral Hospital, Tanzania.

BACKGROUND: Adolescents living with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) experience challenges, including lack of involvement in their care as well nondisclosure of HIV status, which leads to poor adherence to antiretroviral therapy (ART). Parents have authority over their children, but during adolescence there is an increasing desire for independence. The aim of the study was to explore adolescents' experience of challenges identified by adolescents ages 10-19 years attending HIV care and treatment at Temeke Regional Referral Hospital in Tanzania. METHODS: An exploratory descriptive qualitativ

Hospitalizations Associated with COVID-19 Among Children and Adolescents - COVID-NET, 14 States, March 1, 2020-August 14, 2021.

Although COVID-19-associated hospitalizations and deaths have occurred more frequently in adults,† COVID-19 can also lead to severe outcomes in children and adolescents (1,2). Schools are opening for in-person learning, and many prekindergarten children are returning to early care and education programs during a time when the number of COVID-19 cases caused by the highly transmissible B.1.617.2 (Delta) variant of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, is increasing.§ Therefore, it is important to monitor indicators of severe COVID-19 among children and adolescents. This analysis uses Coro

Pushing harder, pushing faster, minimizing interruptions… but falling short of 2010 cardiopulmonary resuscitation targets during in-hospital pediatric and adolescent resuscitation.

AIM: The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of instituting the 2010 Basic Life Support Guidelines on in-hospital pediatric and adolescent cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) quality. We hypothesized that quality would improve, but that targets for chest compression (CC) depth would be difficult to achieve. METHODS: Prospective in-hospital observational study comparing CPR quality 24 months before and after release of the 2010 Guidelines. CPR recording/feedback-enabled defibrillators collected CPR data (rate (CC/min), depth (mm), CC fraction (CCF, %), leaning (%>2.5kg)). Audiov

About differences in the availability of child and adolescent psychiatric hospital beds across Europe and possible implications for mental health care. Are more or less hospital beds the solution to the youth mental health crisis? : Based on a debate at the 21st International Congress of the European Society for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Strasbourg, June 30, 2025.

A number of indicators point to a decline in youth mental health globally over the past 15 years. Access to medical treatment and assistance is becoming increasingly difficult as the social divide is widening due to an imbalance between supply and demand. Hospitalization remains a critical yet costly component of child and adolescent mental health care, reserved for the most severe cases. While necessary in some situations, inpatient treatment carries substantial drawbacks, including family separation and social disruption. This paper discusses if increasing hospital beds across Europe can be
