A Case Study of the Nursing Challenges in Caring for a Patient with a Totally Artificial Heart.

Heart failure represents a growing global health burden, with mechanical circulatory support devices becoming essential for managing end-stage disease. The total artificial heart (TAH) offers a lifesaving option for patients with biventricular failure when transplantation is not immediately available. We report Israel's first TAH implantation in a 63-year-old man with end-stage biventricular heart failure secondary to dilated cardiomyopathy. Following progressive clinical deterioration despite maximal medical therapy, the patient underwent successful implantation of the Carmat bioprosthetic TA

Exploring digital resilience and its related factors among nursing students in the era of AI.

AIM: This study aims to identify distinct subgroups of digital resilience among nursing students and examine the factors associated with these subgroups. BACKGROUND: Digital resilience, the ability to adapt to technological changes and overcome challenges in higher education, is crucial for protecting students' psychological health and improving academic performance. In the context of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital transformation in nursing education, this resilience is essential for students to navigate virtual learning and integrate advanced technologies into their practice. Application of Predictive Analytics in Pregnancy, Birth, and Postpartum Nursing Care.

Predictive analytics has emerged as a promising approach for improving reproductive health care and patient outcomes. During pregnancy and birth, the ability to accurately predict risks and complications could enable earlier interventions and reduce adverse events. However, there are challenges and ethical considerations for implementing predictive models in perinatal care settings. We introduce major concepts in predictive analytics and describe application of predictive modeling to perinatal care topics such as fertility, preeclampsia, labor onset, vaginal birth after cesarean, uterine ruptu

Healthcare Professionals' Perspectives on Nursing Competency: A Synthesis of Qualitative Evidence.

AIM: This study systematically evaluates healthcare professionals' views on nursing competency in an effort to provide a foundation for developing an evaluation framework for it. BACKGROUND: Competency is the core part of determining nurses' talent. This study represents a meta-synthesis of qualitative research on the competency of medical staff for nurses and, as such, provides a reference for exploring innovative nursing human resource management models. METHODS: We searched Web of Science, PubMed, Cochrane Library, Embase, and CINAHL for qualitative studies on nursing competency published

Unveiling the challenges in diagnosing and managing cardiac amyloidosis: A clinical case report.

Cardiac amyloidosis is a rare and challenging condition characterized by abnormal protein deposition in the heart. This clinical case report discusses the intricate diagnostic and management challenges in cardiac amyloidosis, emphasizing the need for a multidisciplinary approach. With vague symptoms complicating diagnosis, collaboration between specialties is critical. Advanced imaging and biopsy techniques aid in subtype identification. Individualized care underscores the importance of tailored treatments. Advanced practice registered nurses, clinicians, and researchers in the field can benef

Role of the Nurse in Patient Education and Engagement and Its Importance in Advanced Breast Cancer.

OBJECTIVES: To show how people with cancer, including those with advanced breast cancer, engage with information and self-management and how cancer nurses can support patients to manage important aspects of care. Epstein and Street's patient-centered communication in cancer care (PCC) model provides a useful framework. The model incorporates six domains representing core mediating functions of patient-centered communication (Fostering healing relationships, Exchanging information, Responding to emotions, Managing uncertainty, Making decisions, and Enabling self-management) and additional moder

Reduction of Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infections: A Multidisciplinary Approach to Driving Change.

Despite the many advancements in infection prevention, catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTI) continue to be problematic for many hospitals. The large urban teaching hospital featured in this article developed a team that consisted of a registered nurse quality Lean coach, bedside nurses from each inpatient nursing unit, physicians, an infection prevention specialist nurse, an education specialist nurse, and members of the quality department to study this matter. The team focused on understanding current practice related to the use and duration of indwelling urinary catheters. It

Invisible Hands Behind Clean Hands: Procurement Justice, Materiality, and Nursing Praxis.

Nursing ethics has long taken the bedside encounter as the moral center of practice. Yet this focus becomes incomplete when the material conditions of care are treated as ethically external to nursing itself. Ordinary clinical supplies such as gloves, masks, gowns, syringes, drapes, and linens are commonly understood as neutral instruments of safe and competent care. This paper argues that such neutrality is philosophically misleading. The materials through which nursing is enacted are embedded in global systems of labor, extraction, manufacture, circulation, use, and disposal that may involve

Transforming acute pain management in children: A concept analysis to develop a new model of nurse, child and parent partnership.

OBJECTIVES: To identify the core components of acute pain management in children, re-conceptualise the process and update the existing model to inform nursing research and clinical practice. BACKGROUND: Acute pain in hospitalised children remains suboptimal, despite extensive nursing research and education. Improvements require a patient-centred approach and a conceptual model which includes the role of parents and partnership. DESIGN: Using Rodgers' Evolutionary method, a concept analysis was conducted to define the core components for effective acute pain management in children. METHODS:

Nurses' management of patients with advanced cancer and weight loss: part 2.

Weight loss and eating-related disorders are commonly seen in patients with advanced cancer. Using a qualitative approach this study set out to explore how nurses currently manage weight loss and eating difficulties in everyday practice as well as exploring what guides their decision-making with regard to choice of nutritional interventions and support strategies employed. Fourteen semi-structured interviews were conducted with nurses from both hospital and community settings. Analysis of the findings revealed that many nurses use an unplanned and reactive style of nutritional management. The

Influencing factors of nursing discipline construction in a Chinese tertiary hospital: a qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: As a first-level discipline, nursing plays an increasingly important role in China's healthcare system, and its sustainable development has become a key focus of current nursing research. The existing research on nursing discipline development is mostly quantitative analysis and lacks depth, failing to fully explore the experiences of nursing managers in practice and the influencing factors. This study adopted a descriptive phenomenological qualitative research design to explore the obstacles and promoting factors in nursing discipline construction and used Herzberg's Two-Factor Th

Prioritizing drivers of nursing migration: a summative content analysis of influential factors.

BACKGROUND: The migration of nurses, nursing students, and graduates has become a global phenomenon shaped by various factors influencing their decision to relocate for education and employment. Understanding these factors is crucial because nurse migration directly impacts workforce availability, retention, and the equity of healthcare services worldwide. This study aimed to rank the factors driving nurse migration from the perspective of nurses in Hamadan Province, western Iran. METHODS: The research team implemented a summative content analysis on Porsline's electronic survey system to col

First in Japan: Training Curriculum for Perianesthesia Nurses and Their Clinical Practice.

PROBLEM DEFINITION: Japan is dealing with a superageing society found nowhere else in the world. This problem is provoking other complex issues such as aggravation of patients' condition, and a shortage of anesthesiologists leading to overwork. STRATEGIES TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEM: As a solution, our hospital established the PeriAnesthesia Nurse (PAN) for the first time in Japan. Unlike the United States and other developed countries in Europe, Japan did not have a license for nurses specialized in anesthesia. Thus, in collaboration with a graduate school of nursing, our hospital started a peria
