Rabbits were injected intraperitoneally with purified echinulin, a product of Aspergillus chevalieri. After 2 h, the rabbits were bled and enzyme analyses were carried out on the supernates of liver homogenates and citrated plasma. Elevated levels of total plasma lactate dehydrogenase, cardiac derived isozyme, glutamic-oxaloacetic and glutamic-pyruvic transaminase activities in animals receiving toxin were observed. A 70-year-old woman with nodular, poorly differentiated lymphocytic lymphoma is the third reported patient with invasive pulmonary aspergillosis caused by Aspergillus terreus. This case differs from the two previously reported in that neither neutropenia nor broad spectrum antibiotics preceded the infection. A terreus should not be dismissed as a laboratory contaminant in pulmonary specimens, especially those from immunosuppressed patients.

Fragments of fungi in a granuloma were demonstrated in lung biopsy specimens of two patients with farmer's lung by using an avidin-biotin-complex method with non-conjugated rabbit antiserum to Aspergillus fumigatus. Our findings suggest that the type IV or cell-mediated immunity at least partly explains the pathogenesis of farmer's lung.

Primary cutaneous aspergillosis (PCA) occurs through inoculation of fungal spores directly into the skin from the environment through disrupted skin such as in burns, surgery or penetrating trauma patients. Most cases reported in literature were in the immunocompromised, rarely in immunocompetent patients. The characteristic lesion of cutaneous aspergillosis is a black eschar on a red plaque, or nodule at the site of skin injury. Aspergillus niger is one of more than 340 different species belonging to the filamentous fungal genus Aspergillus. Aspergillosis can present with a wide range of clinical syndromes, and it results in significant morbidity and mortality worldwide. Here we described a rare case of the left central tympanic membrane perforation secondary to Aspergillus niger otomycosis. The patient underwent tympanoplasty with good improvement.
