Aspergillus infection was studied in patients admitted to the Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) Service at the Johns Hopkins Oncology Center during a 9-year period. The overall incidence was 4% in 549 patients reviewed. The incidence at autopsy was 12% (21 of 174 patients autopsied). There was no difference in frequency of occurrence in allogeneic compared to autologous BMT recipients. However, all infections in autologous BMT patients (5 of 5) occurred during neutropenia before engraftment. : Using a dynamic HIV transmission model calibrated for six USA cities, we projected HIV incidence from 2020 to 2040 and estimated whether an established UNAIDS HIV epidemic control target could be met under ideal implementation of optimal combination strategies previously defined for each city. Four of six cities (Atlanta, Baltimore, New York City and Seattle) were projected to achieve epidemic control by 2040 and we identified differences in reaching epidemic control across racial/ethnic groups.

Homelessness increases a person's exposure to infectious and communicable diseases. The barriers to treatment as described above are many for the physicians and other providers of health care to this population. Health Care for the Homeless would greatly welcome the help of medical subspecialists in the areas of infectious disease, dermatology, gastroenterology, and pulmonology for some of our particularly challenging patients. We look forward to continuing our collaborations with the medical community in Baltimore City as we serve its most vulnerable citizens.

We describe two young patients with Wiskott-Aldrich Syndrome (WAS) who were treated by T-replete hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) from the HLA haploidentical father according to a modified Baltimore protocol. Whereas similar protocols have been successfully used in various malignant and non-malignant diseases, this is the first report for this particular disease. The data being presented pertains to the report about two successful haploidentical transplants with post transplant cyclophosphamide (PTCY) after busulfan-based conditioning.

"Flipping" involves jumping from an elevated surface and executing an aerial flip, with the intent to land upright. We have pursued two blind studies on the plasma glycosphingolipids in patients with the Rett syndrome (RS), other disorders and normal individuals from Baltimore, USA, Vienna, Austria, and Rostock, East Germany. We found the presence of an unusual glycosphingolipid in 70% of patients with RS. Approximately 10% of the plasma from patients with other developmental disorders also contained this glycosphingolipid.
