Obesity is a significant and potentially serious health problem in achondroplasia. Body mass indices, weight-to-square of the height ratio (W/H2), and triceps skinfold measurements show that obesity is common. It begins in early childhood and is prevalent at all ages. We recommend that weight be monitored closely in all persons with achondroplasia and that dietary intervention be instituted whenever the body mass indices, W/H2, and triceps skinfold measurements exceed the 95th centile for the general population.

A study was carried out to estimate the prevalence, larval burden and risk factors of ovine and caprine oestrosis from December 2007 to May 2008 on 554 heads of randomly selected sheep and goat slaughtered at Ambo town, Western Shoa, Ethiopia. The results show an overall prevalence of 59.9% with infection rate of 69.8% and 47.3% in sheep and goats respectively. No statistically significant difference in the prevalence was noted with regard to the assumed risk factors like sex, nose color, face color, horned versus polled, origin, and months (p > 0.05). Loose ligaments are often a predisposing factor of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders. This causal factor was analyzed in 701 subjects presenting at the TMJ and Posture Center of Siena University with TMJ pain or dysfunction. Along with the conventional jaw examination, a Carter and Wilkinson test as modified by Beighton was also done. We found a correlation among the parameters of age, gender, TMJ disorder, joint pain, muscle pain, and loose ligaments.

The etiology of slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE) is unknown, though hormonal as well as mechanical factors have been implicated. We report a case of gigantism who presented with SCFE. This case provides an insight into the genesis of SCFE, which in this case was related to growth hormone excess and sex-hormone deficiency.

Dystonia may be classified by age of onset (childhood, adolescence, adult onset), body distribution of the abnormal movements (focal, segmental, unilateral, multifocal and generalized) and etiology (idiopathic and symptomatic). We describe a single case of a 2-year, 8-month-old male child with alacrima, achalasia, and neurologic anomalies and proven clinical and laboratory evidence of normal adrenocortical function. As the child was the product of a first cousin marriage, the possibility of autosomal recessive mode of inheritance was considered. Differentiation between this syndrome and other previously described associated syndromes is illustrated. This article emphasizes the presence of multisystem anomalies as described in the presence of normal suprarenal function.
