This paper presents a review of the literature on pseudarthrosis of the scaphoid in skeletally immature individuals, taking into consideration its epidemiology, diagnosis and treatment, as well as its controversies. Knowledge of this subject makes it possible for patients to be given appropriate treatment immediately. Pseudarthrosis of the scaphoid in skeletally immature patients is a rare condition that results from error or lack of diagnosis of a fracture. Thus, careful clinical and radiographic examination should be performed in order to confirm or rule out this diagnosis. Several treatment

Background: Intra-articular distal radius fracture treatment options include Kirschner wires (K-wire) fixation, external fixation and plate fixation, however, fixation of small bone fragments in distal radius fractures in a secure and anatomical manner was a challenging issue with several limitations. In this study, we present a novel surgical method that we have called the Persian Fixation for intra-articular distal radius fracture and describe a short-term clinical result. Methods: We described the surgical procedure and clinical result of 15 patients between 2019 and 2020 in whom the Persia

BACKGROUND: Several authors have investigated various sternal closure materials and technologies for sternal fixation; nonetheless, the optimal technique for primary sternal closure remains unclear. This study aimed to evaluate the sternal stability of a simple technique using a mesh-type plate (Super Fixorb MX40®; Takiron Co. Ltd., Osaka, Japan), as compared with wire cerclage.
METHODS: A total of 70 patients who underwent cardiovascular surgery through median sternotomy between July 2019 and May 2020 were included. Two pieces of mesh-type plates were placed under the sternum in combination

BACKGROUND: Scaphoid excision 4-corner fusion is a motion-sparing procedure in patients with advanced radioscaphoid arthritis. This study introduces an alternate technique for scaphoid excision 4-corner fusion using a parallel Kirschner wire (K-wire) construct across the midcarpal joints that leads to reliable fusion rates, and good patient outcomes.
METHODS: This is a single-surgeon, retrospective study of patients who underwent scaphoid excision 4-corner fusion, using a parallel K-wire construct across the midcarpal joints. Once fusion was achieved, K-wires were removed. Radiographic union

Distal radius fractures represent the most frequent bone fractures in humans. Although the treatment was dominated for decades by conservative measures or closed surgical procedures, such as percutaneous wire osteosynthesis, a paradigm shift was instigated by the introduction and rapid dissemination of volar locking plate osteosynthesis (VLP). The novel procedure was soon proclaimed to be the gold standard and applied for practically all forms of fractures of the distal radius. In addition to clinical mishaps, e.g. failure to address dorsal edge fragments or the occurrence of extensor and flex

The term naso-orbital fracture refers to the backward displacement of the nasal bones into the interorbital space. The fracture is most commonly the result of traumatic contact with the dashboard in automobile accidents. The trauma results in soft tissue eyelid deformities, which may also involve nasolacrimal disruption and life-threatening intracranial injury. Early management consists of closed reduction of the nasal fracture when feasible. Late management, which is more common, consists of transnasal wiring, restoration of the nasolacrimal apparatus, and contouring of the nasal bones.

The medial canthal tendon and the fragment of bone on which it inserts ("central" fragment) are the critical factors in the diagnosis and treatment of nasoethmoid orbital fractures. The status of the tendon, the tendon-bearing bone segment, and the fracture pattern define a clinically useful classification system. Three patterns of fracture are appreciated: type I--single-segment central fragment; type II--comminuted central fragment with fractures remaining external to the medial canthal tendon insertion; and type III--comminuted central fragment with fractures extending into bone bearing the

The proximal phalangeal base is the most commonly fractured hand bone in children. Such fractures are rarely reported as irreducible due to flexor tendon entrapment. Here, we describe a patient who sustained a malunited fracture on the right fifth finger proximal phalanx with flexor tendon entrapment after treatment with closed reduction with K-wires fixation.A 13-year-old patient came to the clinic following a bicycle accident 6 weeks ago. He presented with flexion limitation in his small finger on the right hand. During physical examination, the patient felt no pain, and the neurovascular st

BACKGROUND: The primary cause of hypertrophic non-union following femoral intramedullary nailing (IMN) is mechanical instability rather than the depletion of biological activity. Although standard augmentative plating can provide excellent stability, it typically necessitates extensive surgical exposure and periosteal stripping, which disrupts the fragile local vascular network. This study aimed to introduce a novel, minimally invasive elastic Poller wire technique and compare its clinical efficacy and perioperative surgical trauma with those of standard augmentative plating.

Background: Transverse metacarpal shaft fractures commonly require surgical fixation, yet optimal postoperative management remains controversial. Although intramedullary (IM) Kirschner wire (K-wire) fixation allows early motion, many surgeons continue to apply postoperative splinting due to concerns about stability. We aim to determine if a single IM K-wire fixation without immobilisation yields better outcomes and faster recovery of hand function. Methods: A single-centre, prospective and randomised controlled trial was conducted between November 2024 and November 2025 involving isolated tran

INTRODUCTION: K wire is one of the most common implants used for fixation of acromioclavicular joint dislocation. The migration of K wire from the AC joint to the spinal canal is a rare occurrence. In this report, the authors present a case of a young adult who presented with weakness of the left upper limb secondary to migration of the K wire from the AC joint to the spinal canal.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 46-year-old male farmer presented with complaints of pain in the neck, tingling sensation in the left upper limb, and a tender palpable swelling on the left side of his neck with weakness of fi

This report describes the combination of two surgical fracture repair techniques and the postoperative management of a mandibular diastemal fracture in a two-year-old mare. The mare was referred to a veterinary hospital with a laceration over the body of the right mandible. Radiographic assessment revealed two mesial fracture lines involving the second premolar tooth and a ventrally displaced bone fragment. The mare was treated under general anesthesia and the fracture was corrected using open reduction and plate fixation. A 3.5 mm narrow 15-hole locking compression plate with seven locking sc

BACKGROUND: In some infants with developmental dysplasia of the hip, concentric closed reduction, although initially achievable, cannot be maintained even by casting because of a deficient posterior acetabular wall. Usually, these hips will redislocate in the cast and a rereduction will be necessary, often requiring an open reduction subsequently.
METHODS: A 3-year retrospective review of 88 infants, (M/F; 14/74) 6 to 12 months of age with 124 dislocated hips, was conducted to assess the efficacy of percutaneous Kirschner wire fixation in achieving permanent hip stability. A "hip-at-risk" ins
