Glutathione S-transferases (GSTs) and carboxylesterases (CarEs) play important roles in the detoxification of endogenous and exogenous compounds. In this study, the biochemical effects of dietary cadmium (Cd) on the activities of GST and CarE in different developmental stages of the rice grasshopper Oxya chinensis Thunberg were studied. This study was set up to determine the suitability of the early life stage (ELS) alkaline comet assay for the detection of DNA strand breaks induced by genotoxicants in whole organism. Airborne micro- and nano- plastics (MNPs) are emerging environmental toxicants which may affect lung cellular functions. Deposition of MNPs in lungs of susceptible individuals e.g. smokers, is not known. We determined the deposition of MNPs in the lungs of smokers and non-smokers.
