The effect on the kidney capillaries of T lymphocyte culture supernatants from patients with minimal change nephrotic syndrome was studied by infusion into the left renal artery of rats. The supernatants of T lymphocyte cultures from nephrotic patients induced significant proteinuria and a reduction of anionic sites in the glomerular basement membrane of the kidneys in the rats. These changes were not produced in rats receiving equivalent supernatants from healthy controls.

To assess the relationship between a nailfold scleroderma pattern and histopathological data, we compared the results of nailfold capillaroscopy with capillary basement membrane width of labial salivary glands in 25 patients with either a Raynaud's disease (RD: 12 patients) or a progressive systemic sclerosis (PSS: 13 patients). The sensitivity of a capillaroscopic scleroderma pattern for capillary basement membrane thickness is of 75%. These results confirm the usefulness of in vivo capillary examination for the early diagnosis of PSS.

The work describes the use of SYBR Gold to improve the detection sensitivity of plasmid DNA topoisomers by capillary gel electrophoresis with laser induced fluorescence in an uncoated capillary. The impact of different dyes, including ethidium bromide, SYBR Green and SYBR Gold, was compared based on detection and separation of DNA plasmid topoisomers. Capillary electrophoresis is a method with a long history of developments which enables monitoring of several pathological processes and has an irreplaceable role in screening for presence of M-protein. The aim of this study was to assess analytical performance of Sebia and Helena systems, as well as their screening efficiency for M-protein by identifying characteristic electrophoretic pattern abnormalities. The controls were analyzed in triplicate over a five-day period. Comparability testing was performed on 46 (Capillarys3Octa) and 49 (V8Nexus) serum samples with routinely used Capillarys2.
