Clinical outcomes of direct oral anticoagulant versus warfarin after transcatheter aortic valve replacement: From the STS/ACC TVT registry.

BACKGROUND: Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) recipients frequently have an indication for long-term oral anticoagulation, including atrial fibrillation or systemic thromboembolic disease. It remains unclear if there are differences in safety and effectiveness between direct oral anticoagulants (DOAC) and warfarin in this patient population. METHODS: Clinical outcomes were compared between TAVR recipients receiving DOACs or warfarin using data from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons/American College of Cardiology Transcatheter Valve Therapy (TVT) registry linked with Centers for Med

Tricuspid valve endocarditis in people who inject drugs: strategies to reduce mortality and recurrent infection.

Tricuspid valve infective endocarditis (TV-IE) in people who inject drugs (PWID) has become an increasingly important clinical and public health concern, driven largely by the expanding opioid epidemic. Although PWID with TV-IE are typically young and often lack major comorbidities, they experience disproportionately high rates of mortality, reinfection, and recurrent hospitalizations. Repeated intravenous injection introduces contaminated particulate matter and pathogens into the venous circulation, promoting microbial adherence to the tricuspid valve, with Staphylococcus aureus including met

Frequency of misdiagnosis in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is characterized by unexplained left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) ≥15 mm. The condition is often hereditary, and family screening is recommended to reduce the risk of adverse disease complications and premature death among relatives. Correct diagnosis of index patients is important to ensure that only relatives at risk of disease development are invited for family screening. To investigate whether patients with International Classification of Disease, Tenth Revision (ICD-10) codes for HCM (DI421) or hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy
