Tuberculosis (TB) is a serious infectious disease caused by an airborne pathogen mycobacterium tuberculosis and typically presents with classic symptoms of fever, chills, night sweats, cough, and weight loss. TB has been shown to be an independent risk factor for venous thromboembolism by inducing an inflammatory state. We present a rare case of miliary TB that was initially diagnosed with a sub-massive pulmonary embolism.

Amphotericin-B, a broad spectrum antifungal agent, has been known to cause adverse effects such as nephrotoxicity and infusion-related side effects such as fever, chills, rigor, and arthralgias. However, ototoxicity as an adverse effect of Amphotericin-B has not yet been reported in medical literature. We here report a case of a reversible form of ototoxicity induced by liposomal Amphotericin-B (L-AmB).

The patient was a 48-year-old man who presented to the emergency department with complaints of a left-sided painful neck mass, which changed in size relative to ingestion of meals. He denied voice change, fever, chills, weight loss, dysphagia and hoarseness. Physical examination was unremarkable. CT scan demonstrated a 3.9 mm calculus of the submandibular gland duct. Therapeutic sialendocopy was successfully performed.

Piercing invades subcutaneous areas and has a high potential for infectious complications. The number of case reports of endocarditis associated with piercing is increasing. We studied a 25-year-old man with a pierced tongue, who arrived at Memorial Health University Medical Center with fever, chills, rigors, and shortness of breath of 6 days' duration and had an aortic valvuloplasty for correction of congenital aortic stenosis.

A 19-year-old man, recently returned from a 10-day military exercise in central California, had acute onset of shaking chills, headache, and bilateral inguinal adenopathy after having been bitten by insects on his lower extremities. He had exquisitely tender inguinal and femoral nodes bilaterally. Needle aspirate from an inguinal node grew Yersinia pestis. The patient was treated with streptomycin and chloramphenicol and did well.

African tick bite fever (ATBF) is an infectious disease commonly observed in travelers to sub-Saharan Africa. Because the presentation of the disease is often not specific, ATBF is frequently not diagnosed or confused with Mediterranean spotted fever. We present the case of a 63-year-old woman with typical history and symptoms. The diagnosis of ATBF was serologically confirmed by immunofluoroscence. ATBF is an important differential diagnosis of fever in patients returning from sub-Saharan Africa.

Here, we present the case of a 51-year-old male with pain in the right hypochondrium, jaundice, fever, chills and septic shock. A computed tomography (CT) scan showed a juxtapapillary diverticulum with inflammatory changes, which caused bile duct ectasia and left biliary radicals. We considered this to be a septic shock of a biliary origin due to the cholangitis associated with Lemmel syndrome, with signs of juxtapapillary diverticulitis.

He had been experiencing hoarseness, right-sided pleuritic chest pain, subjective fevers, chills, night sweats, and 10 pounds weight loss for the previous 2 months. He additionally reported severe frontal headaches, nasal congestion, and intermittent epistaxis, which had been present for a year before his current presentation. He had worked in construction and denied tobacco or illicit drug use.

A previously healthy, 9-year-old boy presented with five recurrent episodes of left-sided chest pain with low-grade fever over the last 18 months. The pain usually lasted for few hours, was severe and consistent, and resolved spontaneously. It worsened during inspiration, physical activity, and swallowing. He did not experience any cough, dyspnea, chills, cold sweats, or weight loss. His medical and family history was unremarkable.

A 67-year-old white man with a history of end-stage renal disease receiving peritoneal dialysis (PD) presented with acute onset of vomiting, chills, and abdominal pain. He was diagnosed with PD-associated peritonitis secondary to Pasteurella. After failure of 3 weeks of antibiotic treatment, catheter loss occurred. On follow-up, the patient was found to have extensive intra-abdominal adhesions precluding placement of a new PD catheter.

A 40-year-old woman presented with high fever with chills and rigors. Imaging studies revealed multiple liver abscesses with hepatosplenomegaly and gall-stones. Ultrasound-guided aspirate revealed pus that was negative on Gram and acid-fast staining and for amebic trophozoites. ELISA for echinococcus was strongly positive, but she did not respond to albendazole therapy. At surgery, Fasciola hepatica was detected and she responded well to bithinol postoperative.

A 42-year-old white man had headache, fever, chills, abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting, night sweats, and dark urine for 3 days before admission; he had history of a tick bite 6 weeks earlier. Progressive systemic deterioration, heralded by progressive hepatosplenomegaly and pancytopenia, occurred despite doxycycline therapy. Subsequent recovery was preceded by progressive resolution of hepatosplenomegaly. Progressive hepatosplenomegaly has not been previously reported in association with systemic monocytic ehrlichiosis.

Actinomycosis is a chronic infectious disease, caused by an anaerobic gram positive microorganism, the actinomyces israelii. It grows by continuity toward adjacent organs, with formation of dense masses of woody tissue, producing draining abscesses and fistulae. General symptoms of this disease are fever, chills, in association with symptoms proper of each localization. The diagnosis is made when the "sulphur granules" that are characteristic of the pus of actinomycosis are found.

Chronic lumbar radiculopathy following spinal surgery is reported, in which 7 of 25 patients reviewed developed a postoperative syndrome immediately after their original surgery. Later, sometimes years later, all 7 patients developed severe chronic spinal arachnoiditis. This syndrome was characterized by transient violent spasms in the legs, muscle cramps, increased radicular pain, and often fever and chills. The recognition of this syndrome and a proposed method of treatment is discussed.

Chlamydia is the etiological agent of chlamydiosis in wild and domestic birds, mammals, and humans. In this study, Chlamydia reads were detected in the microbiome of the neck skin of 76 broiler carcasses collected in the same slaughterhouse at the end of the chilling tunnel. The carcasses originated from four different flocks of female Ross 308, reared in two broiler houses located in Northern Italy. One flock from each poultry house was sampled in 2019, and one flock in 2023. The carcass neck skin microbiome was investigated by shotgun metagenomic sequencing. Chlamydia reads displayed a mean

OBJECTIVES: Postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) are common symptoms after cesarean delivery (CD) that affect patients outcomes and satisfaction. The treatment of choice is still evolving, therefore, we aimed to evaluate PONV of combined paracetamol-dexamethasone vs. paracetamol alone.
METHODS: This study is a double-blind randomized controlled trial on 100 patients undergoing cesarean delivery. Participants were randomly assigned into two groups of paracetamol or combined paracetamol-dexamethasone. Nausea and vomiting score, VAS score of pain, and chill were compared between the two grou

Although typically unnoticed, Chlamydia infections in swine have been shown to be both widespread and may impact production characteristics and reproductive performance in swine. Serum titers suggest Chlamydia infection within boar studs is common, and infected boars are known to shed chlamydia in their ejaculates. Although the transmission of viruses in chilled extended semen (ES) is well established, the inclusion of antibiotics in commercially available extender is generally believed to limit or preclude the transmission of infectious bacteria. The objective of this study was to evaluate th
