[Laparoscopic cholecystectomy for acute cholecystitis].

The ingested foreign body is one of the commonest emergencies encountered by otolaryngologists Depending on the shape and duration of impaction, a small number of foreign bodies (1-2%) can perforate the wall of the gastrointestinal Tract. A migrated foreign body may remain quiescent or cause life-threatening suppurative and vascular complications. Data were collected retrospectively from the hospital records in a tertiary care hospital in South India from 2010 to 2020. Fifteen patients diagnosed with migrated foreign body and who underwent neck exploration were included in the study. Demograph

[Laparoscopic cholecystectomy for acute cholecystitis].

UNLABELLED: Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is considered the "gold standard" for the planned treatment of symptomatic cholecystolithiasis. Currently this method is used in 88% of cholecystectomy according to world database. There are evidences that laparoscopic cholecystectomy for acute cholecystitis is a quite safe method which is not connected with many complications. AIM OF THE STUDY: Assessment of the post-operative complication risk and hospitalization time in cases of acute cholecystitis had undergone laparoscopic cholecystectomy in comparison with classic cholecystectomy. Evaluation of n…

[Laparoscopic treatment of acute cholecystitis].

Acute cholecystitis has been considered a contraindication for laparoscopic cholecystectomy after its affirmation as the golden standard for treatment of chronic cholecystitis. However, over time it has been proven that acute cholecystitis could also be managed laparoscopically, although it was technically demanding procedure, burdened with relatively high conversion rates. In this study we present our series of 26 patients, urgently admitted for acute cholecystitis. They are presented with clinical findings typical for acute cholecystitis. The diagnosis was determined using ultrasound examina…

[Laparoscopic surgeries in acute cholecystitis].

Results of 2035 laparoscopic cholecystectomies for acute cholecystitis and its complications were analyzed. Indications and contraindications are clarified. Some technical features made the procedure easier in perivesical infiltration and adhesive process in the upper abdominal cavity. Efficacy and safety of intrasurgical cholangiography are validated. Method of drainage of the common hepatic duct by Holsted-Pikovsky was used. Surgical algorithm adjusted to pathological changes of extrahepatic bile ducts revealed during intrasurgical cholangiography was developed that permits to apply widely m…

Acalculous cholecystitis in Nigerian children.

Sixteen children with acalculous cholecystitis (AC) were treated over a 9-year period (13 male and 3 female). Their ages ranged from 8 to 18 years (median 11). Eight (50%) presented with complications (perforation 4, gangrene 2, empyema 2); 13 (80%) presented with acute AC with a duration of symptoms of 2 weeks or less while 3 (20%) presented with chronic AC with symptoms present for more than 3 months. The diagnosis was made by ultrasound except in the patients with complications, who were diagnosed at laparotomy. Salmonella typhi was cultured in the bile and blood in 2 cases and the Widal ti…

Acute cholecystitis and laparoscopic cholecystectomy.

OBJECTIVE: To determine whether laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) should be the procedure of choice in treating acute cholecystitis. METHOD: A prospective study was conducted over a 4 1/2-year period. There were 187 patients with acute cholecystitis out of 1020 patients with gallbladder disease who required cholecystectomy. These patients were divided into three groups based on the time interval between the onset of pain and the time patients sought medical attention: Group 1, < 3 days; Group 2, 3 to 7 days; Group 3, > 7 days. All the patients underwent LC after a comprehensive preoperative w…

Laparoscopic cholecystectomy in acute cholecystitis.

BACKGROUND: In the light of laparoscopic cholecystectomy increasingly applied to all forms of cholecystitis, this study aimed at evaluating the safety of laparoscopic cholecystectomy applied to all cases of acute cholecystitis, and at determining factors associated with the risk of conversion to open cholecystectomy. METHODS: The clinical, biochemical, radiologic, and operative data from 124 consecutive cases of acute cholecystitis were analyzed retrospectively to determine the complications and morbidity after operation. The data were analyzed further by univariate and multivariate analysis …

Laparoscopic cholecystectomy for acute cholecystitis.

Acute cholecystitis was initially considered a contra-indication for laparoscopic cholecystectomy, but today the laparoscopic route is generally used even for severe acute cholecystitis. Several studies have shown that this is possible, although the conversion and complication rates are high, but there are no randomised controlled trials that evaluate the complications and costs of this technique compared with conventional open techniques. The timing of a laparoscopic cholecystectomy for acute cholecystitis is also a matter of debate as well as its use in elderly patients with this condition.

Laparoscopic cholecystectomy in acute cholecystitis.

The authors retrospective analyze the role of golden standard laparoscopic cholecystectomy for the treatment of acute cholecystitis. They make a comparison between the results of 50 early cholecystectomy and 44 "a froid" cholecystectomy (operation was postponed until 6 weeks after acute cholecystitis had healed). From January 1997 to December 1998 536 laparoscopic cholecystectomies were performed. In 491 cases (91.6%) laparoscopic, and in 45 cases (8.4%) traditional (opening) method was indicated. Converted cholecystectomies were in 36 cases (7.3%). Agreeing to the literature they can determin…

[Acute cholecystitis--primary laparoscopic procedure].

The role of laparoscopic cholecystectomy on patients with histologically confirmed acute cholecystitis is still controversial. From January 1992 to December 1996, 228 cholecystectomies were performed for acute cholecystitis and a total of 104 patients were operated on conventionally and 124 patients underwent laparoscopic surgery. In a prospective study we compared the conventional with the laparoscopic technique. The results indicated that in 19 patients (15.3%) treated initially with the laparoscopic technique, a switch to laparotomy was required. The operating duration was lower for convent…

[Ultrasound diagnosis of acute cholecystitis].

The results of ultrasonographic examination of the gall-bladder in its acute inflammation in 1070 patients are presented. Parallels between the anatomic changes and ultrasound visual picture of the inflamed wall of the gall-bladder were drawn. The analysis of the results of the examination revealed the most typical symptoms of acute cholecystitis and permitted to differentiate it from similar ultrasonographic symptoms in other diseases of the gall-bladder. From all patients who underwent surgical treatment or diagnostic laparoscopy, the diagnosis was confirmed in 97%. The possibilities of the …

Laparoscopic cholecystectomy for acute cholecystitis.

One hundred and eight patients with histopathologically confirmed acute cholecystitis underwent laparoscopic or attempted laparoscopic cholecystectomy in the Security Forces Hospital, from October 1991 to April 1996 were retrospectively reviewed. All the patients had routine laboratory works including abdominal ultrasonography. Females represented 75% and 57% had previous admission. Diabetes mellitus was found in 43.5%. Laparoscopic cholecystectomy was successfully completed in 71.2%. The main reasons for conversion in 31 patients were adhesions and unclear anatomy in 87%. The mean operative t…
