PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to describe a case of choroidal osteoma with macular involvement in an infant who was treated with transpupillary thermotherapy.
METHODS: This was a case report.
RESULTS: An 11-month-old infant presented for retinopathy of prematurity follow-up examination and was found to have a three disk-diameter round, orange, subretinal, slightly elevated lesion with well-defined margins in the superior macula of the left eye. B-scan ultrasonography showed a slightly elevated, highly reflective choroidal mass with acoustic shadowing. A diagnosis of choroidal osteoma wa…

We report on a case series that revealed flat, choroidal lesions on optical coherence tomography (OCT) and on enface MultiColor® (MCI) imaging of the fundus but were not noticeable on clinical examination or conventional color fundus images. This observational study included 12 eyes from 11 patients who had distinct, orange-colored lesions on MCI. Retinal imaging was conducted using conventional color fundus photography and OCT. On the color fundus images and the blue and green reflectance channels of MCI, each of the lesions was difficult to distinguish. On the infrared channel, the lesion wa…

Tubercular association with serpiginous choroiditis, also called 'serpiginous-like choroiditis' or 'multifocal serpiginoid choroiditis' (MSC) is reported from world over, especially from endemic countries. Though the exact mechanism is not yet clear, a direct or indirect infectious trigger by Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) is believed to cause choroiditis. The link of immune mechanisms with ocular inflammation caused by MTB is emerging, and has been supported by both experimental and human data. The molecular and histopathological findings of tubercular serpiginous-like choroiditis have been …

INTRODUCTION: Ischemic choroidal diseases are an underdiagnosed entity. The clinical pattern varies according to the size and the localisation of the affected vascular structure.
CLINICAL PRESENTATION: In eyes with occlusion of the long posterior ciliary arteries, characteristic triangular patches of choroidal ischemia (Amalric sign) are seen, which in the course of time merge into well-defined areas of atrophy of the retinal pigment epithelium. Above the non-perfused choroidal areas, hyperpigmented, grouped lines appear (Siegrist streaks). Circumscribed ischemia of smaller choroidal arteriol…

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: The aim of this review is to summarize developments in the treatment of active polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy (PCV). PCV is associated with a poor visual prognosis as a consequence the condition's hallmark polypoidal dilatation and a branching network resulting in recurrent hemorrhages and serous leakage.
RECENT FINDINGS: Recent research has provided new insights into the pathogenesis of PCV. While still considered a subtype of age-related macular degeneration, suggestions that PCV belongs to a spectrum of conditions that present with a pachychoroid are increasingly well…

PURPOSE: Keratoconus is an ectatic eye disease characterized by progressive thinning and steepening of the cornea which leads to irregular astigmatism and visual function loss. Determination of choroidal thickness in keratoconus patients may help us to better understand and manage the keratoconus disease. Choroidal thickness may be a potential marker for disease activity in keratoconus patients. In this study, we aimed to determine choroidal thickness in keratoconus patients and compare the results with the age-matched control group.
METHODS: This is a prospective study with a control group. …

PURPOSE: To demonstrate the clinical pathologic correlation in a hemorrhagic choroidal melanoma.
OBSERVATIONS: A 52 year old patient presented with a large choroidal mass associated with vitreous and retinal hemorrhage. The eye was enucleated and histopathology demonstrated epithelioid-type MART1 positive tumor cells consistent with choroidal melanoma. The tumor had broken through Bruch's membrane, which led to localized vascular compression with bleeding into the subretinal space, retina and vitreous.
CONCLUSIONS AND IMPORTANCE: Choroidal melanoma rarely presents with hemorrhage. Tumor rupt…
