Choroid metastasis from esophageal carcinoma is rare; reports addressing the effectiveness of treatment strategies are limited. We report a case of a 51-year-old man with metastatic esophageal carcinoma who had a 1-month history of blurred vision in his left eye. An ophthalmologic examination revealed a choroidal mass in his left eye. Adjuvant chemotherapy with cisplatin and 5-fluorouracil was initiated; however, visual acuity did not improve. External beam radiotherapy (EBRT) was initiated, resulting in near complete regression of the mass. EBRT is an effective therapeutic modality and should

Stereotactic radiosurgery using the Leksell Gamma Knife has proven to be a valuable alternative to orbital enucleation or fractionated radiation therapy for primary tumors of the orbit, metastatic tumors to the choroid, and primary uveal melanomas. With this approach in a single outpatient setting, the eye is immobilized by a local block after which high-definition MRI or CT is performed to define the target. After rapid dose planning, radiation delivery is completed before the local block dissipates. The tumor response is often dramatic. The risk of acute narrow-angle glaucoma, radiation-rela

Choroidal and central nervous system metastases from prostate cancer are extremely rare. We report a case of choroidal and brain metastases from castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC). A 75-year-old male patient with metastatic CRPC presented with a 1-week history of a decrease in visual acuity in his left eye. An ophthalmoscopic examination revealed a choroidal tumor, 4 disc diameters across with serious retinal detachment. He was diagnosed with metastatic choroidal tumor from examination and patient's background. The external beam radiation therapy of total 30 Gy was successful and his

This article describes the seventh published case of metastatic carcinoid to the choroid. Only two prior cases have been treated conservatively, one using chemotherapy and the other using photocoagulation and proton beam irradiation. Our patient was unique since she was the first to have conservative therapy by implantation of a radon ring. Initial results were clinically promising, although repeated ultrasound testing actually showed minimal decrease in tumor size. Subsequently, a large retinal detachment caused marked visual deterioration. Persistent pain from neovascular glaucoma prompted l

BACKGROUND: Episcleral plaque brachytherapy is a treatment method for ocular tumors that involves placing radionuclide sources directly on or around the tumor using an episcleral plaque. This technique offers the advantage of a highly focused radiation dose, minimizing exposure to critical eye structures. Various radionuclides such as I-125, Ru-106, and Pd-103 are used in ocular brachytherapy. The choice of radionuclides depends on several factors, such as tumor size, location, and desired dose rate.
METHODS: A retrospective review of the literature from PubMed (1998-2024).
RESULTS: Special

PURPOSE: To introduce a cost-efficient device for transillumination in the management of uveal melanoma.
METHODS: Todorich Illuminated Depressor is a ball-point depressor, designed to work with the 23-, 25- and 27-gauge Alcon Constellation endoillumination. It was invented to allow indentation and peripheral vitreous visualization for vitrectomy.
RESULTS: Todorich depressor combined with endoillumination can also work as a device for transillumination for tumor localization. We started using this method of transillumination for the management of uveal melanomas since September 2020 and have

A woman in her late 50s presented with on-and-off redness and diminution of vision in her left eye for 6 months. Her best corrected visual acuity was 20/40 in the right eye and hand motion in the left eye. Anterior segment examination revealed a greyish-white lesion extending from 3 to 6 o'clock hours posterior to the iris and protruding into the anterior chamber. Left eye B-scan ultrasonography showed a multifocal choroidal lesion, a smaller one involving the posterior pole, and a larger lesion involving the complete nasal quadrant and anteriorly extending to the ciliary body and iris. Fine-n

Clinical relevance: The malignant potential of choroidal melanocytic tumours detected incidentally in the community is thought to be low, but this has not been assessed using a validated screening tool. An accurate characterisation of the malignant potential of these lesions has implications for resource allocation, service provision, education, and training. Background: MOLES (Mushroom shape, Orange Pigment, Large size, Enlargement, and Subretinal fluid) categorises tumours as 'common naevus', 'low-risk naevus', 'high-risk naevus', and 'probable melanoma'. The MOLES system recommends that pati

Encephalotrigeminal angiomatosis (Sturge-Weber syndrome) is a congenital sporadic disease characterized by angiomatosis of meningeal vessels, facial and eye capillaries. The article presents a clinical case of comorbidity between monolateral skin angioma, ipsilateral conjunctival and choroidal angiomas without intraocular pressure elevation. The case is unusual due to asynchronous manifestation of the clinical signs of Sturge-Weber syndrome. Facial angioma was diagnosed at birth, while conjunctival angioma appeared at the age of 45 - at the same time as monolateral hypermetropia, which may be

PURPOSE: To provide correlative clinical-multimodal imaging-histopathologic findings of isolated prostatic choroidal metastasis.
METHODS: Ophthalmologic examination, fluorescein angiogram, spectral-domain optical coherence tomography, fundus autofluorescence, computerized tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, positive emission tomography, CSF analysis, serologies, tissue pathology with immunohistochemistry, and examination of relevant literature.
RESULTS: A 76-year-old man with a history of prostate adenocarcinoma was referred for 2 months of unilateral blurry vision. Fundus examination re
