The reasons of transient hypocalcemia, frequently occurring after thyroid surgery, were investigated. Serum total calcium (seCa) and phosphorus (seP) levels were determined in 185 patients with benign nodular goiter before and after thyroid surgery. A review of 1019 patients with posterior uveal melanomas who were treated with episcleral plaque radiotherapy showed that 59 (6%) required enucleation of the affected eye. Seventeen of the enucleations were done within 1 year, 30 within 2 years, and 55 within 5 years. OBJECTIVES: Enrolment of subjects to clinical trials investigating novel drugs for infectious diseases is an ongoing challenge. In this study, we evaluate factors associated with non-enrolment in treatment trials for invasive candidiasis.
METHODS: We conducted a retrospective review of pre-screening logs of patients that were assessed for enrolment in the three clinical trials ACTIVE (NCT00413218), APX001-201 (NCT03604705) and ReSTORE (NCT03667690), investigating novel drugs for invasive candidiasis between September 2007 and August 2021 to identify reasons for study ineligibility.

Macroglossia can be seen in multiple conditions, but its evaluation becomes more challenging when approached as an isolated presenting symptom. This is a case of a 65-year-old patient with isolated progressive tongue hypertrophy of unclear etiology for 5 years. We navigate the causes of macroglossia and discuss the clinical and diagnostic procedures that helped us narrow the differential diagnoses for our patient. We emphasize searching for evidence of more systemic involvement and the use of appropriate genetic testing to change the course of the disease and avoid therapeutic delay.
