Brachial plexus nerve block versus haematoma block for closed reduction of distal radius fracture in adults: The BLOCK Trial - a protocol for a multicentre randomised controlled trial.

INTRODUCTION: Distal radius fractures account for one-fifth of all fractures in the active elderly population and may cause chronic pain, loss of hand function and reduced work productivity, imposing a significant socioeconomic burden. Most are initially treated with closed reduction and casting, but 30% subsequently require surgery due to insufficient realignment. The current approaches for analgesia for closed reduction are suboptimal. A brachial plexus nerve block provides complete pain relief and muscle relaxation distal to the elbow, potentially creating better conditions for realignment

Use and efficacy of haematoma blocks in managing closed reduction of distal radial fractures by emergency nurse practitioners: A matched case-control study design.

BACKGROUND: Displaced distal radial fractures are common among all age groups, but increasingly in older patients, and are frequently managed by emergency nurse practitioners. Most can be manipulated and reduced in the emergency department, often by procedural sedation and analgesia, which can be time consuming and often requiring multiple resources. Using haematoma blocks may offer advantages. AIM: To examine the use and efficacy of haematoma blocks in managing close reduction of distal radial fractures by emergency nursing practitioners compared to procedural sedation. DESIGN: Matched case

Clinical Results of Closed Reduction and Percutaneous Pinning for Gartland Type II Flexion-Type Supracondylar Humeral Fractures in Children: Report of Three Cases.

Supracondylar humerus fractures are the most common upper limb injury in children, but the incidence of flexion-type fractures is relatively low. Herein, we report the clinical results for three children with Gartland type II flexion-type supracondylar humeral fractures treated by closed reduction and percutaneous pinning. From April 2004 to March 2020, 102 children with supracondylar humeral fractures underwent surgery at our hospital and related institutions. Four had a flexion-type supracondylar humeral fracture (3.9%). Three patients (1 boy and 2 girls) with Gartland type II flexion-type s

A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of the Efficacy of Buddy Taping Versus Reduction and Casting for Non-operative Management of Closed Fifth Metacarpal Neck Fractures.

A closed fifth metacarpal neck fracture is a frequently encountered upper limb fracture that occurs when the bone breaks right below the little finger's knuckle. At the moment, there is no agreement on the best way to treat these fractures. This research seeks to look at the efficacy of buddy taping versus reduction and casting for non-operative management of uncomplicated closed fifth metacarpal neck fractures. A systematic review of PubMed, Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE), PubMed Central (PMC), and the Cochrane Library databases was carried out using the Pre

Comparative study between volar locked plates versus closed reduction with percutaneous pinning in management of unstable extra-articular distal radius fractures.

BACKGROUND: Unstable extra articular fractures of distal radius need operative treatment, either by manipulation and closed pinning by K-wires, or by locked types of plates that give good anatomical restoration. OBJECTIVE: To compare the volar locked plate versus manipulation and percutaneous pinning method of fixations for unstable extra articular fractures of distal radius. METHODS: A prospective comparative study was conducted on 26 patients with mean age of 48.42±10.7 years having closed, unilateral, unstable extra articular distal radius fracture according to the one or more of the foll

A Prospective Randomized Trial Comparing the Functional Results of Buddy Taping Versus Closed Reduction and Cast Immobilization in Patients With Fifth Metacarpal Neck Fractures.

PURPOSE: Although fifth metacarpal neck fractures are typically treated nonsurgically, most often with closed reduction and orthosis immobilization, cast immobilization may not improve outcomes compared with buddy taping without reduction. The aim of this study was to compare functional outcomes of buddy taping versus reduction and cast immobilization in patients with fifth metacarpal neck fractures. METHODS: Adult patients with acute fifth metacarpal neck fractures with less than 70º volar angulation and without rotational deformity were randomly assigned to be treated either with buddy tapi

Ishiguro technique percutaneous metallic bone needle closed reduction for Judet IV radial head fractures in children: A case report (CARE-compliant).

RATIONALE: Fractures of the radial head in children constitute 5% to 17% of all elbow fractures and 1% of all pediatric fractures. As intra-articular injuries they pose significant challenges due to the high risk of loose body formation and ischemic necrosis, which can lead to long-term joint dysfunction and reduced quality of life. Although advances have been made in pediatric orthopedic surgery, developing minimally invasive and effective treatment strategies remains a crucial research focus for optimizing functional recovery and reducing complications. PATIENT CONCERNS: An 8-year-old femal

Incidence and risks for surgical site infection after closed tibial plateau fractures in adults treated by open reduction and internal fixation: a prospective study.

BACKGROUND: Surgical site infection (SSI) was the most common complication of tibial plateau fracture after open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF). Severe infections even required repeat surgeries, which would cause serious psychological harm to patients and increased the economic burden of treatment. In order to identify the characteristics of the SSI and to avoid the occurrence of SSI, we conducted a prospective study to investigate the incidence and independent risk factors of SSI after ORIF for closed tibial plateau fractures in adults. METHODS: This study was performed at a first-le

Closed reduction using the percutaneous leverage technique and internal fixation with K-wires to treat angulated radial neck fractures in children-case report.

UNLABELLED: Pediatric radial neck fractures are uncommon. Severely displaced and angulated fractures usually require treatment. Our goals for treatment are to avoid incision, reduce the fracture adequately with no reduction loss, and achieve good postoperative function. We aimed to observe the clinical outcomes of closed reduction with the percutaneous leverage technique and internal fixation with Kirschner-wires (K-wires) to treat angulated radial neck fractures in children. From January 2011 to April 2013, we treated 16 cases of angulated radial neck fracture in 12 boys and 4 girls.
