Haematogenous metastasis to ascending colon in a patient with hepatocellular carcinoma and autoimmune hepatitis.

The association of hepatocellular carcinoma with chronic active autoimmune hepatitis and haematogenous metastasis to ascending colon has not been reported previously in the literature. The patient was asymptomatic for colonic disease and the finding of colonic involvement was incidental on scans subsequently confirmed by colonoscopy. Usually hepatocellular tumour mass would involve the colon by direct contiguity. Owing to haematogenous metastasis, which is extremely rare, the colonic mass was discontiguous from hepatic tumour lesions. The unique presentation of this case and the differential d

[Herniation of the cecum and ascending colon through the Winslowi foramen in the bursa omentalis].

Herniation through the foramen of Winslow (HFW) is exceedingly rare, the ileum, coecum or ascending colon is involved mostly. One new case is presented here to illustrate the clinical findings, which are often discreet, and the characteristical radiographic features, which can lead to definitive preoperative diagnosis. Treatment is by surgical reduction of the hernia, resection of non-viable bowel or fixation of coecum and ascending colon. Closure of the foramen is generally considered unnecessary. Without delay in diagnosis and treatment, the former high letality rate of the condition is now

Evaluation of the microcirculation of the equine jejunum and ascending colon after ischemia and reperfusion.

Intramural vascular patterns of the jejunum and colon were evaluated during ischemic strangulation obstruction (ISO, 70 minutes) and subsequent reperfusion (60 minutes) in 7 adult anesthetized horses. Microvasculature of experimental and control segments was described by comparison of results from microangiography, light microscopy, and scanning electron microscopy of vascular replicas. Experimental and control segments with isolated vascular arcades were removed either immediately after the experimental period or after 60 minutes of reperfusion. Blood was flushed from the vascular system by u

[Squamous cell carcinoma of the ascending colon--a case report and review of literature].

One case of squamous cell carcinoma of the ascending colon is reported. The patient, a sixty two year old woman, was admitted because of right abdominal pain for three months. A mass, 6 X 5 cm in size, was palpated. 13 cm colonic mucosa destruction was shown by barium enema. Right hemicolectomy was done. A squamous cell carcinoma of the ascending colon was diagnosed by light and electron microscope. Squamous cell carcinoma of the colon is rare. Squamous cell carcinoma and adenoacanthoma, occurring in the colon and upper rectum, comprise 0.5% of all colonic malignancies. 18 cases have been coll

[Malacoplakia of the ascending colon and appendix in children. Report of a case with ultrastructural observations].

Description of a case of malacoplakia involving the ascending colon and appendix in a 11-year-old boy with history of severe diarrhea. The lesions were studied by light and electron microscopy. They were composed of proliferation of histiocytes with the typical cytoplasmic inclusions known as Michaelis-Gutmann bodies. The authors comment the pathogenesis of malakoplakia pointing out its rarity in infancy and in the intestine. They also review the literature and stress the importance of the development of malakoplakia in severe enterocolitis.

Glycoprotein containing vesicles in the surface epithelial cells of the ascending colon of the rat.

Recently, radioautographic studies have shown that cell coat glycoproteins are transported to the cell surface by vesicles both in the amoeba (Flickinger, '75) and in the epithelial cells of the ascending colon of the mouse (Michaels and Leblond, '76). In the current morphological and cytochemical study of the surface epithelial cells of the rat ascending colon, it is shown that filamentous material, resembling the cell coat, is contained in saccules toward the mature face of the Golgi apparatus and vesicles close to the apparatus and near the terminal web. The vesicles are limited by a unit m

Salvage pancreaticoduodenectomy for localized recurrence after resection of ascending colon cancer: a case report.

A 66-year-old man underwent right hemicolectomy for ascending colon cancer with direct invasion of gallbladder. Numerous aberrant proliferative vessels from the duodenum were noted. The pathological diagnosis was T4bN0M0, Stage IIC, with a KRAS G12D mutation. He received four cycles of adjuvant chemotherapy. Four months later, a mass approximately 3 cm in diameter involving the duodenum and ileum was identified and diagnosed as localized recurrence with no evidence of distant metastasis. After administration of two cycles of chemotherapy, contrast-enhanced computed tomography demonstrated tumo

Cervical and vaginal metastases from ascending colon cancer: a case report and literature review.

BACKGROUND: Colorectal cancer commonly metastasizes to the liver and lungs; however, cervical and vaginal involvement is exceedingly rare. This report describes in detail a unique case of cervical and vaginal metastasis of ascending colon cancer. CASE PRESENTATION: A patient presented with vaginal bleeding. Investigations revealed discontinuous malignant lesions in the cervix and vagina. Following a series of examinations, the patient underwent radical cervical and vaginal resection. Pathology confirmed adenocarcinoma, and combined with immunohistochemical results, the cervical and vaginal le

Ascending colon injury and ileal perforation due to blunt abdominal trauma: A case report.

A rare case of an ascending colon injury and ileal perforation in a 34-year-old male patient due to blunt abdominal trauma caused by a road traffic accident is reported in this study. This paper reports the clinical and imaging findings of seat belt syndrome. The seat belt syndrome primarily involves soft tissue injury; however, lacerations of the colon, small intestine, and mesentery have rarely been reported in the literature. However intestinal injuries, including bowel perforation and mesenteric injuries due to seat belt syndrome, must not be underestimated because they usually require eme

Ascending colon cecal junction carcinoma with prostate metastasis: A case report and literature review.

RATIONALE: Colon carcinoma is the most common type of cancer, and a leading cause of cancer-related death. Clinically, the most common sites of metastases from colon carcinoma are the liver, lungs, peritoneum, and lymph nodes, while the incidence of metastases to the prostate is low. There are few relevant studies on colon carcinoma, most of them being case reports. PATIENT CONCERNS: A 76-year-old man treated with radical resection of right colon carcinoma due to primary poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma of the cecum. Postoperative pathological examination suggested that he had cancer at t

[A Case of Cardiodiaphragmatic Corner Lymph Node Recurrence after Surgery for Ascending Colon Cancer].

The case is a female, 50s. She presented to our hospital because of her intestinal obstruction. A CT scan at her visit showed wall thickening of her ascending colon. Colonoscopy revealed type 2 advanced cancer in the ascending colon. The pathological examination was a diagnosis of adenocarcinoma. Laparoscopic right hemicolectomy was performed for cT3N1M0, cStage Ⅲb ascending colon cancer. The pathological result was pT3N1M0, Stage Ⅲb. Contrast-enhanced CT was performed 10 months after the operation. As a result, she was found to have recurrent multiple liver metastases. A laparoscopic partial

Pathological Complete Response of Clinical T4b Ascending Colon Cancer after Preoperative Chemotherapy Using Pembrolizumab.

Preoperative chemotherapy is efficacious in several cancers. However, it is not an established treatment for locally advanced colon cancer, particularly cases with microsatellite instability-high (MSI-H)/deficient mismatch repair. Herein, we report a case of pathological complete response of MSI-H clinical T4b ascending colon cancer to preoperative treatment with pembrolizumab. A 78-year-old man was diagnosed with ascending colon cancer that invaded into the iliacus muscle and enlarged regional lymph nodes. The tumor was classified as T4bN1bM0 stage IIIC according to the 8th Union for Internat
