Implementing Somalia's National Transformation Plan 2025-2029 for health-system reform: a policy and practice review of governance, financing, and institutional readiness.

Somalia's National Transformation Plan (NTP) 2025-2029 presents an ambitious health-reform agenda centred on maternal and child health, workforce development, health-system strengthening, regulation, financing, digitalisation, and emergency preparedness. The policy challenge is whether the institutional conditions required for implementation can be assembled in a fragile, federal, highly aid-dependent and predominantly mixed-provider health system. This Policy and Practice Review critically examines the implementation readiness of the NTP health chapter and proposes a sequenced framework for c

An empirical study on the influencing factors and mechanisms of contract compliance intention among oriented medical students in China: the case of Hubei Province.

BACKGROUND: The shortage of health personnel facing China, particularly in rural areas, has posed a great obstacle to the sustainable development of its health system. The Chinese government has, therefore, implemented the Rural-Oriented Tuition-Waived Medical Higher Education (ROTWMHE) program to address this issue, which recruits and trains medical students (oriented medical students) with contracts to serve in designated areas. This study attempts to identify the contract compliance intention of medical students in the ROTWMHE program and investigate the influencing factors and mechanisms.

Coronary artery aneurysm presenting as ST-elevation myocardial infarction in a man with coronavirus disease 2019: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Patients with underlying cardiovascular risk factors have worse clinical outcomes when they have coronavirus disease. In addition, a reduced workload of cardiovascular emergencies has been reported during the coronavirus pandemic due to patients' reluctance to attend hospitals for fear of contracting the disease. Regional health service reorganization, separating hospitals into coronavirus and non-coronavirus can mitigate this effect. However, the effectiveness of this approach on outcomes and patient satisfaction is unknown. CASE PRESENTATION: A 35-year-old Pakistani man with acu

[Long-term care services in Spain: an overview].

To date, both in Spain and virtually all the other European Union (EU) countries, dependency has been seen to be a fundamentally private problem to be dealt with by the family concerned. In this way, whether through informal carers or contracted professionals, in the domestic environment or in care homes, it is the dependent person themselves and their families who currently bear the majority of the costs. In light of this, current concern lies in the social change that is coming on, mainly the accelerated aging process and the increased participation of middle-aged women in the labour market,

Models for assessing scar tissue inhibitors.

The main purpose of animal models for proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR) is to develop pharmacologic therapies for this common cause of blindness. A very large number of pharmacologic agents appear to have potential use in this application by preventing cell proliferation and/or contraction. In practice, however, it has been found that prohibitively extensive numbers of animals and laboratory services are required to establish drug efficacy, safety, and dosage regimes. To lessen this work load and to accelerate drug screening programs, the authors have developed an in vitro model for PVR ba

SARS preparedness. Revisiting the procedures to protect staff and help prevent or contain an outbreak.

Last year, more than 8,000 people worldwide contracted severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), leading to 774 deaths. Although transmission of the disease was quickly controlled, with the outbreak declared over by July, there is concern that SARS could in fact be a seasonal disease and that another outbreak could occur in 2004. In early January, Chinese health officials confirmed the first non-laboratory-related SARS case since the initial outbreak was contained. The threat of another outbreak underscores the importance of having a response plan in place to safeguard the health of your commu

Educating workers about tuberculosis.

At a state penitentiary, workers are told that the communicable disease unit is a safe environment in which to work due to the negative air pressure in the isolation rooms and the improved ventilation system. However, nobody is trained to monitor the system or understands the role of negative air pressure, and isolation room doors are occasionally left open. As a result, workers are reluctant to work in the unit. At a soup kitchen, workers refuse to serve people with HIV due to fear of tuberculosis transmission. They have heard that people infected with HIV are likely to have TB and, therefore
