Self-Care Behaviors in Osteoporosis: A Cross-Cultural Study Using Multidimensional Analysis of Textual Data.

INTRODUCTION: Osteoporosis is a chronic skeletal condition that significantly affects daily life and may benefit from adequate self-care. The Middle-Range Theory of Self-Care of Chronic Illness conceptualizes self-care as a naturalistic process encompassing maintenance, monitoring, and management, also shaped by contextual and cultural factors. Despite this theoretical framework, limited evidence exists on how people with osteoporosis conceptualize and enact self-care in different cultural contexts. Italy and Spain provide comparable yet distinct settings for exploring cultural influences on s

The interplay of attachment styles and early maladaptive schemas across different populations.

BACKGROUND: This study investigated the complex relationships among attachment styles, early maladaptive schemas (EMS), and demographic factors across different racial groups. METHODS: Data were collected from participants through Prolific and analyzed via multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) and multiple regression to explore how categorical and dimensional attachment styles relate to EMS across various demographic factors, including race, age, gender, and income. RESULTS: The findings revealed that fearful attachment was consistently associated with higher EMS scores, particularly emot

People in relationally mobile cultures report higher well-being.

In cultures with high relational mobility, relationships are free and flexible. People can make new friends easily, and they have the freedom to leave unsatisfying relationships. In cultures with low relational mobility, relationships are more fixed, and people have less freedom to leave relationships. We argue that people experience higher well-being if they have the freedom to exit toxic relationships and find new partners easily. In Study 1, we ran a controlled comparison by testing people all within the same nation. We measured well-being and relational mobility in a representative sample

Cross-cultural validation of the Spanish version of the mini cambridge-exeter repetitive thought scale (Mini-CERTS) in two Spanish-speaking populations.

The Mini Cambridge-Exeter Repetitive Thoughts Scale (Mini-CERTS) captures constructive and unconstructive aspects of repetitive thinking, but there is a need to revise and improve it given its novelty. For this reason, we present a validation and factor analysis of the Spanish version of the Mini-CERTS. Given that it is important to take cultural issues into account in instrument adaptation, we also assess its measurement invariance across Spanish (N = 430) and Peruvian (N = 394) populations. After deleting conflictive items, a 9-items version of the Mini-CERTS showed a two-factor model distin

Translation and cross-cultural adaptation of the sleep-related breathing disorder scale of the Pediatric Sleep Questionnaire into Danish language.

OBJECTIVE/BACKGROUND: Sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) is common but often underestimated in children. The gold standard for assessing SDB is polysomnography, but it is expensive and time-consuming. The Paediatric Sleep Questionnaire (PSQ/SRDB) is a validated screening tool for SDB, which represents an efficient and alternative tool for screening SDB among children. However, a translated and validated Danish version of the PSQ/SRDB is not available yet. Our aim was to cross-culturally translate the PSQ/SRDB into Danish language for use in clinical and research settings. PATIENTS/METHODS: The

Prevalence and severity of symptoms and signs in patients with advanced cancer in the last days of life: the East Asian collaborative cross-cultural study to elucidate the dying process (EASED).

PURPOSE: Few large-scale studies have focused on the prevalence of symptoms and signs during the last days of patients diagnosed with advanced cancer. Identifying the patterns of specific symptoms according to cancer type is helpful to provide end-of-life care for patients with advanced cancer. We investigated the prevalence and severity of symptoms and signs associated with impending death in patients with advanced cancer. METHODS: In this secondary analysis of an international multicenter cohort study conducted in three East Asian countries, we compared the severity of symptoms and signs am

Cross-cultural adaptation and validation of the Arabic version of the foot function index in patients with chronic lateral ankle instability.

BACKGROUND: The English version of the Foot Function Index (FFI) is a reliable and valid tool for measuring pain and functional instability due to chronic lateral ankle instability (CLAI). However, its use among Arabic speakers with CLAI is limited because of the unavailability of the Arabic version of the FFI (FFI-Arb). This study aimed to translate, cross-culturally adapt and validate the FFI from the original English version into Arabic. METHODS: The FFI questionnaire was translated using the Beaton guidelines. Two-hundred-and-thirty native Arabic-speaking participants with CLAI were recru

Cross-Cultural Measurement Invariance in the Personality Inventory for DSM-5✰.

The validity of cross-cultural comparisons of test scores requires that scores have the same meaning across cultures, which is usually tested by checking the invariance of the measurement model across groups. In the last decade, a large number of studies were conducted to verify the equivalence across cultures of the dimensional Alternative Model of Personality Disorders (DSM-5 Section III). These studies have provided information on configural invariance (i.e., the facets that compose the domains are the same) and metric invariance (i.e., facet-domain relationships are equal across groups), b…
