This paper reports on the results of applying a multivariate regression model of living arrangements choices to census data on the 1970 U. S. population of nonmarried, nonparenting adults. The model examines the factors affecting living with (1) relatives or (2) living alone or with nonrelatives. These factors include sex, income, marital history, and age. In addition, the model tests whether living arrangements choices differ for the elderly relative to other ages. The researchers aim was to examine the predictors of marital adjustment among child brides in Turkey. Measures of communication, hostility, and neuroticism taken from 85 couples from Germany before marriage were used to predict marital outcomes 5 years later. Hostility and neuroticism discriminated between couples who separated or divorced after 5 years and those who remained married, whereas communication discriminated between married-satisfied and married- dissatisfied couples. Earlier models of fertility hypothesize that marital dissolution and remarriage influence subsequent childbearing. This issue is examined by comparing the fertility of those in disrupted marriages with that of those in stable marriages. The results indicate that, by transferring women into a nonmarried status, marital dissolution decreases childbearing. Family caregivers' conceptualizations of their child's emotional and behavioral problems (EBP) influence help-seeking for the child and care … regivers described their child's problems as a response to an earlier stressor (e.g. trauma, abuse, divorce). Different patterns of caregiver strain and help-seeking were associated with caregiver conceptualization. All caregivers voiced a need for peer-to-peer support for caregivers and youth with EBP.

This study investigated MMPI characteristics of adult female outpatients in a behavior therapy clinic (N = 110). Those reporting histories of childhood sexual or physical abuse or both differed from those who did not on global Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI; Hathaway & McKinley, 1943) indices of psychopathology and on Scales F, K, L, 4, 7, and 8. A comparative study of vesico-vaginal fistulae cases and controls was carried out at two tertiary hospitals in Maiduguri, Nigeria. The fistulae cases were significantly shorter in height, younger in age at marriage and had a higher divorce rate. Prolonged labour, traditional surgical practice of "gishiri cut" and ignorance were identified as the commonest causes of the fistulae. Fifty-one burn patients were studied in a retrospective manner to determine the effects of the burn injury on their ability to return to their pre-burn physical and social status. The aim of this pilot study was to ascertain the frequency of alcohol misuse among the elderly (> 65) psychiatric referrals. Consecutive referrals to a suburban elderly psychiatric team were screened for alcohol misuse by using the CAGE questionnaire as a part of psychiatric assessment. Gamma-glutanyl transpeptidase (GGT) was measured in those showing evidence of alcohol misuse. Frequency of alcohol misuse in the elderly was found to be low. Alcohol misuse was associated with raised GGT, depression, being divorced/ widowed and living alone.
