Clinical Outcomes and Inflammatory Response to the Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) Protocol in Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis Surgery: An Observational Study.

Limited data exist on the clinical outcomes and inflammatory response of Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) protocols in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) patients undergoing posterior spinal fusion (PSF). This study evaluates ERAS's impact by analyzing blood parameters and serum protein, surgical, and radiological parameters to assess safety, feasibility, and clinical outcomes. Between July 2021 and July 2022, 30 AIS patients underwent PSF with standardized pain management, high-dose tranexamic acid, early mobilization, and reduced opioid use. Blood tests and serum markers (IL-6, IL-1…

Benefits of Enhanced Recovery After Surgery for fusion in degenerative spine surgery: impact on outcome, length of stay, and patient satisfaction.

OBJECTIVEEnhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) proposes a multimodal, evidence-based approach to perioperative care. Thanks to the improvement in care protocols and the fluidity of the patient pathway, the first goal of ERAS is the improvement of surgical outcomes and patient experience, with a final impact on a reduction in the hospital length of stay (LOS). The implementation of ERAS in spinal surgery is in the early stages. The authors report on their initial experience in applying an ERAS program to several degenerative spinal fusion procedures.METHODSThe authors selected two 2-year perio…

[Guidelines for the management of key measures for enhanced recovery after surgery in spinal fusion surgery of aged patients (2024 edition)].

The application of enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) is particularly necessary in late old patients (>75 years) with poor tolerance to surgical stress due to the common problems such as organ dysfunction. However, some relatively radical measures have resulted in ERAS not being widely applied in late old patients with spinal fusion. Therefore, the China Medicine Education Association Enhanced Recovery After Surgery for Geriatric Spine Specialty Committee organized domestic experts in related fields to developed this guide based on current medical evidence, this guideline summarizes and di…

Guidelines for Enhanced Recovery After Trauma and Intensive Care (ERATIC): Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) Society and International Association of Trauma Surgery and Intensive Care (IATSIC) Recommendations: Paper 1: Initial Care-Pre and Intraoperative Care Until ICU, Including Non-Operative Management.

BACKGROUND: Enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocols reduce length of stay, complications, and costs for elective surgical procedures. It remains challenging to implement ERAS concepts in the acute trauma patient due to deranged physiological reserve from the penetrating or blunt trauma producing altered physiology. However, systems of care improve access to early intervention and potentially reduce mortality. These consensus guidelines examine optimal pre-hospital, resuscitation-room, intra-, and post-operative treatment, systems of ethical management, and overall care for trauma pati…

How Sweet Is This? A Review and Evaluation of Preoperative Carbohydrate Loading in the Enhanced Recovery After Surgery Model.

Preoperative carbohydrate loading is a contemporary element of the enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) paradigm. In addition to intraoperative surgical and anesthetic modifications and postoperative care practices, preoperative optimization is essential to good postsurgical outcomes. What was long held as dogma, a period of prolonged fasting prior to the administration of anesthesia, was later re-examined and challenged. Along with the proposed physiologic effects of decreasing the surgical stress response and insulin resistance, preoperative carbohydrate loading was also demonstrated to im…
