Evaluation of an evidence-based contraceptive advice line used to support contraceptive provision in primary care.

BACKGROUND: An e-contraceptive advice line (contraceptionadvice.GP@hullpct.nhs) was set up by our unit to support contraceptive provision in primary care. This advice line was for general practitioners (GPs) initially and was then extended to certain pharmacists. All queries were to be answered within 24 hours. A similar e-advice line on emergency contraception for patients seeking advice had been successful in the USA and South Africa. METHODS: Our aim was to evaluate the contraceptive advice line using standards developed at its inception. A retrospective audit of the queries received by th

Correctional Nursing Interventions for Incarcerated Persons with Mental Disorders: An Integrative Review.

The authors explore the current state-of-the art of correctional nursing by summarizing the types of interventions employed by nurses, across studies, designed to assist this challenging group of patients. This examination of evidence-based interventions implemented and tested by correctional nurses provides a better understanding of their role and function. Correctional health is a nurse driven system, yet a minimal amount is known about the nurses who practice in these environments or about their contributions to the practice of mental health nursing in correctional environments. An integrat

Nursing implications in the application of conversion therapies on gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender clients.

Conversion therapies, also know as reparative therapies, emphasize homosexual orientations as psychopathology in gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (GLBT) clients and claim these individuals can reverse their sexual orientation through psychiatric counseling and treatment. Although professional medical and nursing organizations have branded psychiatric interventions designed to change an individual's sexual orientation as unethical, an international movement fueled largely by religious organizations promote such therapies for GLBT persons. This article explores the historical perceptions

Reframing Intimate Partner Violence Response Through a BE-KNOW-DO Praxis: Integrating Evidence-Based Practices, Culturally Relevant Frameworks, and Adaptive Leadership.

BACKGROUND: Intimate partner violence (IPV) continues to be inconsistently identified, documented, and referred within healthcare settings, reflecting misalignments in clinicians' beliefs, knowledge, and clinical actions. AIM: This brief report evaluates the BE-KNOW-DO praxis model as a mechanism‑based framework for clarifying how these multilevel barriers shape forensic‑nursing response and for identifying opportunities to strengthen culturally responsive, trauma‑informed practice. METHODS: A convergent integrative approach synthesized quantitative findings from prior mixed‑methods research

Effect of Continuous Nursing Based on IKAP Theory on Periodontal Indicators and Self-Management Ability of Patients With Periodontal Disease.

Periodontitis, a chronic inflammatory disease affecting over a billion people globally, requires effective long-term self-management for successful outcomes. However, a significant gap persists between patient knowledge and sustained behavioural change. This review proposes and synthesizes evidence for a paradigm shift in periodontal care: continuous nursing based on the Information-Knowledge-Attitude-Practice (IKAP) theory. We deconstruct the IKAP framework as a sequential cascade where targeted Information is converted to personalized Knowledge, shaping positive Attitudes to ultimately drive

Advances in the Prevention and Nursing Care of Postoperative Complications After Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia Surgery.

Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is a common disease among middle‑aged and older men worldwide and tends to progress over time. For patients with severe BPH, surgery is still the main treatment and is generally considered the most definitive option. With the growing use of various surgical techniques, such as transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) and laser enucleation, the prevention and management of postoperative complications have become key determinants of patient outcomes. This narrative review aimed to explore the mechanisms and risk factors for common complications after BPH
