A new tool in neurophysiological exploration of the trigeminal nerve has recently been introduced. Slow vertex response (SVR) audiometry is presently one of the methods of choice in objective auditory threshold assessment. The aim of this study was to evaluate, as objectively possible, the relationship existing between the thresholds of SVR and or pure tone audiometry (PTA). Birth asphyxia is a major cause of neonatal mortality and morbidity. Modulatory influences of the mu opioid agonist morphine and the kappa opioid agonist U-50, 488H on field-evoked potentials from the main olfactory bulb (MOB) in response to stimulation of the olfactory nerve were studied. Trigeminal nerve impairment is frequently seen in chronic trichlorethylene intoxication (TRI). A total of 104 occupationally exposed subjects were selected for study because they were employed at a highly exposed workplace. Evoked potentials (EP) represent a valuable addition to currently applied diagnostic methods in neuropediatrics. Profound knowledge of the neurophysiological conditions producing EP-alterations allows basic conclusions, that cannot be gained or replaced by other investigations. Auditory brain-stem responses (ABR) were recorded in six healthy male volunteers during intravenous infusion of lidocaine that achieved systemic blood levels similar to those seen with conduction anesthesia and antiarrhythmic therapy.
