Development of a Mobile App Game for Practicing Lung Exercises: Feasibility Study.

BACKGROUND: Chest injuries are a leading cause of death and disability, accounting for 10% of hospital admissions and 25% of injury-related deaths. About two-thirds of patients with thoracic injuries experience complications such as blood or air in the pleural space, causing lung deflation and poor gas exchange. Proper breathing management, using tools like incentive spirometers, improves lung function and recovery. However, there is a gap in mobile-based gaming apps designed for lung exercise, which could benefit both the general population and patients recovering from lung injuries. OBJECTI

Wearable Acceleration Plethysmography for Carotid Pulse Pressure Monitoring: A Feasibility Study.

Central blood pressure (CBP), which is the pressure at the aorta and other central arterial sites such as the carotid, is more predictive of target organ damage and future adverse events, as opposed to conventional blood pressure assessed at more peripheral sites. However, methods to estimate CBP are complex, require frequent calibration and are not suitable for continuous tracking purposes. Here, we introduce a wearable accelerometer based pressure sensing system to track carotid pulse pressure (PP). The wearable system detects the transcutaneous pressure (PT) on the skin surface over the car

Endoscopic-Assisted Presigmoid Approach to the Internal Auditory Canal. A Feasibility Study.

HYPOTHESIS: The retrolabyrinthine (presigmoid) approach has been utilized in various skull base surgeries but has not been fully utilized in the management of internal auditory canal (IAC) lesions, such as vestibular schwannoma (VS). Microsurgical retrolabyrinthine approach provides limited visualization of the IAC, while endoscopic-assisted techniques allow for further lateral exposure with labyrinthine preservation. BACKGROUND: Traditional approaches to the IAC have the disadvantage of hearing sacrifice or retraction of brain tissue. With the introduction of endoscopic techniques and enhanc

Assessing the Feasibility and Acceptability of the Daybreak Drink Tracker: Prospective Observational Study.

BACKGROUND: Excessive alcohol use is associated with significant harms, with wide-ranging social and economic impacts. Efforts to prevent and reduce the harmful use of alcohol are a public health priority. Smartphone apps have the potential to provide accessible and cost-effective support to those seeking to reduce alcohol consumption; however, the evidence base regarding which components are effective is lacking. Self-monitoring is considered as one of the most effective components for behavior change across multiple health domains, yet there is mixed evidence for its role in the alcohol use

A DenseNet-based Abnormal Ventricular Potentials Onset Delineation: A Feasibility Study.

Abnormal ventricular potentials (AVPs) are fractionated and complex electrograms (EGMs), typically associated with slow conduction areas in the myocardium. As such, in ventricular tachycardia (VT), their identification supports the localization of the myocardial areas sustaining the arrhythmia in the electroanatomic mapping. Their latency can be related to their spatial localization, suggesting the entrance or the exit of a reentry pathway. In this work, we explored a novel approach to delineate the onset of the pathological deflections in AVPs. For this preliminary study, an expert cardiologi
