Unveiling the Anti-Inflammatory Mechanism of Ziziphus jujuba Mill. var. spinosa Flowers: Network Pharmacology, Molecular Docking and Experimental Validation.

During the cultivation of Ziziphus jujuba Mill. var. spinosa trees, two varieties exhibiting floral sterility were identified. Their flowers are often discarded, resulting in resource wastage. Therefore, non-targeted metabolomics technology was employed to characterize the chemical composition of Z. jujuba Mill. var. spinosa flowers. Network pharmacology was then utilized to explore their medicinal active components and mechanisms of action, which were validated through molecular docking and in vitro anti-inflammatory experiments. Results revealed that 3851 metabolites were identified in Z. ju

Evaluation of α-Glucosidase Inhibition and Antihyperglycemic Activity of Extracts Obtained from Leaves and Flowers of Rumex crispus L.

Among antihyperglycemic drugs used for treating diabetes, α-glucosidase inhibitors generate the least adverse effects. This contribution aimed to evaluate the potential antidiabetic activity of Rumex crispus L. by testing its in vitro α-glucosidase inhibition and in vivo antihyperglycemic effects on rats with streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetes. Better inhibition of α-glucosidase was found with the methanol extract versus the n-hexane and dichloromethane extracts. The methanol extract of the flowers (RCFM) was more effective than that of the leaves (RCHM), with an IC50 of 7.3 ± 0.17 μg/mL fo

Identification of novel virulence factors in Erwinia amylovora through temporal transcriptomic analysis of infected apple flowers under field conditions.

The enterobacterial pathogen Erwinia amylovora uses multiple virulence-associated traits to cause fire blight, a devastating disease of apple and pear trees. Many virulence-associated phenotypes have been studied that are critical for virulence and pathogenicity. Despite the in vitro testing that has revealed how these systems are transcriptionally regulated, information on when and where in infected tissues these genes are being expressed is lacking. Here, we used a high-throughput sequencing approach to characterize the transcriptome of E. amylovora during disease progression on apple flower

IDA (INFLORESCENCE DEFICIENT IN ABSCISSION)-like peptides and HAE (HAESA)-like receptors regulate corolla abscission in Nicotiana benthamiana flowers.

BACKGROUND: Abscission is an active, organized, and highly coordinated cell separation process enabling the detachment of aerial organs through the modification of cell-to-cell adhesion and breakdown of cell walls at specific sites on the plant body known as abscission zones. In Arabidopsis thaliana, abscission of floral organs and cauline leaves is regulated by the interaction of the hormonal peptide INFLORESCENCE DEFICIENT IN ABSCISSION (IDA), a pair of redundant receptor-like protein kinases, HAESA (HAE) and HAESA-LIKE2 (HSL2), and SOMATIC EMBRYOGENESIS RECEPTOR-LIKE KINASE (SERK) co-recept

Developmental shifts in eye morphology and visual ecology of banded flower mantis (Theopropus elegans).

Compound eyes display high morphological diversity across arthropods, including rare cone-shaped forms whose visual function is puzzling because their unusual shape seems to defy expectations of how eyes sample visual space. Species in which eye shape changes through development offer a valuable opportunity to investigate how cone-shaped morphology affects visual sampling and acuity. In this study, we investigated the developmental trajectory of eye morphology in the banded flower mantis (Theopropus elegans), a species that transitions from a cone-shaped to a spherical eye during growth. Using

Revisiting sex plasticity in Cannabis sativa L.: A hormonal cross-talk in flower masculinisation.

Sex determination in Cannabis sativa L. has major implications for breeding, biotechnology, and crop management. In this species, sex is primarily governed by an XX/XY sex chromosome system, with genetic regulation constituting the principal level of control. Variation in sex expression, encompassing dioecious, monoecious, or hermaphroditic forms, may arise from interactions between sex chromosomes and autosomal factors X-to-autosome (X: A) chromosome balance. Secondary modulation of sex phenotype involves environmental and physiological influences, with phytohormonal regulation representing a

The AtFLC-AtFT Pathway Is Involved in the Early Flowering Promoted by Loss of AtHO1 Function in Arabidopsis.

Although previous studies have indicated that heme oxygenase 1 (HO1/HY1) regulates the flowering time via the photoperiod pathway, the specific mechanism is still elusive. Here, we found that the Arabidopsis hy1-100 mutant displayed early flowering, and the characteristic expression patterns of several master genes involved in the autonomous pathway were altered. Notably, the transcript levels of FLOWERING LOCUS C (AtFLC) gene declined developmentally in both wild-type and hy1-100 mutant, with a more pronounced fold reduction observed in the mutant. Genetic evidence further underlined that hy1
