Ocular symptoms are a common reason for patients to present to the emergency department or to their primary care physician. Though often benign, these symptoms can also be an early manifestation of systemic disease. In order to study the manifestation and genesis of cholesterol deposits in the temporal bone and the paranasal sinuses, 137 temporal bones and 3 paranasal sinuses with deposits were examined. For histological study, 1036 specimens were obtained from temporal bones, and 16 specimens were obtained from paranasal sinuses. A patient who ingested a soft-drink bottle top and stones, which resulted in a chronic active ileitis, is described. This report describes the clinical and histopathological studies of an eye 13 months after successful extracapsular cataract surgery and J-loop-type posterior chamber lens implantation. The lens was of PMMA while the loops were made of polypropylene. The corrected visual acuity of the patient was 1.0 and clinically the eye showed no evidence of anterior uveitis. The lower loop was in the capsular bag while the upper loop was embedded in the ciliary body surrounded by chronic foreign body giant-cell inflammatory reaction.
