In a single centre double-blind crossover study in eighteen patients with established rheumatoid disease, a new slow release aspirin ("slow aspirin") was compared with plain aspirin with respect to patient tolerability and gastric mucosal damage as observed at gastroscopy. "Slow aspirin" was significantly better than plain aspirin with regard to gastroscopic findings. BACKGROUND: The clinical utility of performing esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) before linear endoscopic ultrasonography (L-EUS) to evaluate the luminal upper gastrointestinal (GI) tract is not well established.
GOALS: The study was aimed to determine the prevalence of clinically meaningful luminal abnormalities (any luminal finding requiring further evaluation with mucosal biopsy or initiation of treatment) in patients undergoing L-EUS. Esophageal perforations are rare but most often caused by instrumental lesions during endoscopy. We describe a cases of the iatrogen esophageal perforation accompanied with perforation of the pericardium. Chest radiograph with Gastrografin swallow revealed the perforation. The principles of operative treatment and the postoperative course are demonstrated.

Two cases of corrosive burns of the stomach after the ingestion of acid by children are presented. Both patients were the same sex and of a similar age (19 and 20 months). The chemical nature of the caustic substance ingested (hydrochloric acid) and the lack of initial symptoms were also similar. This study describes clinical experience and curative effect of radiophotographically controlled nasointestinal intubation in the treatment of small intestine arrangement in recurrent postoperative adhesive ileus. A 300-cm-long nasointestinal tube was installed into the jejunum through the nasal cavity under radiophotographic observation in 25 patients with recurrent postoperative adhesive ileus. The prevalence of obesity is increasing worldwide. Its primary treatment consists of lifestyle changes. In severely obese (BMI > 40 kg/m2 or ≥ 35 kg/m2 with comorbidity) patients though, bariatric surgery has been found to be the only way to achieve permanent weight loss. Operations such as the placement of a gastric band or a gastric bypass can, however, lead to complications and necessitate secondary interventions.
