Rift Valley fever (RVF) is an important cause of disease in animals and humans in sub-Saharan Africa. In a small percentage of human cases, the disease is complicated by hemorrhage, which often is associated with a fatal outcome. Inoculation of rhesus monkeys with the Zagazig Hospital strain of RVF virus produced a clinical picture similar to illness in humans. An examination of patients with trigeminal neuralgia and facial pains of the cervical genesis (in cervical osteochondrosis, bone anomalies of the same localization, the syndrome of musculus scalenus anterior) revealed hemostatic impairments. These changes were generalized in trigeminal neuralgia and regional in the second group of patients, being particularly overt during a pain attack. The data obtained must be taken into account in evaluating the pathogenesis and in administering multiple modality therapy.

Postoperative hematoma is a frequent complication of arteriovenous fistula (AVF) revision, threatening wound healing and access patency. The Auersvald hemostatic net is commonly used in rhytidoplasty for hematoma prevention.
