Exogenous testosterone use in cisgender heterosexual females with postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome: A dual case report.

Exogenous testosterone has been previously reported to have given clinical improvement in symptoms of postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) in reported cases of transgender patients during their transition from female to male. Herein is presented two case reports of cisgender heterosexual female patients with POTS who have used testosterone for the management of concurrent gynecologic problems, but who also found that symptoms of both POTS and joint hypermobility improved after its administration.

Envisioning family, but where? Parenthood-related geographic preferences among childless LGB and heterosexual adults in Ecuador.

INTRODUCTION: Research on parenthood aspirations among lesbian, gay, and bisexual (LGB) adults has expanded, yet little is known about the geographic contexts in which parenthood is envisioned, particularly in the Global South. This question has practical relevance because unequal legal recognition, social acceptance, economic opportunity, and personal safety may make the exercise of family formation rights partly contingent on mobility. METHODS: Using a cross-sectional convergent mixed-methods survey, we examined parenthood-related geographic preferences among 184 childless cisgender adults

"Not enough" vs. "never perfect": a qualitative analysis of penile enlargement surgery intentions in heterosexual and homosexual men.

BACKGROUND: Psychological motivations for penile enlargement surgery (PES) remain understudied, particularly across different sexual orientations. AIM: This study explores the psychosocial drivers of PES intentions among heterosexual and homosexual cisgender men. METHODS: Twenty-four cisgender men (12 heterosexual, 12 homosexual) who had undergone or recently consulted for PES were interviewed using semi-structured protocols. Data were analyzed via thematic analysis, guided by the Push-Pull Theoretical Model. Push factors refer to internal pressures that motivate individuals to seek PES, whi

Observed positive support and cortisol reactivity/recovery among heterosexual cisgender and sexually and gender diverse couples.

Positive romantic relationships are linked to physical health via stress buffering. Although a growing number of studies have found that couple interactions before or after the Trier Social Stress Test (TSST) modulate cortisol reactivity and recovery in the stress-exposed individual, gaps remain concerning dyadic, cross-partner associations and specific positive support behaviors that could explain this buffering effect. Additionally, while sex assigned at birth, sociocultural gender, and sexual orientation have been shown to modulate stress reactive cortisol, such studies have not included se

Clinical presentations and treatment outcomes between bi+, gay/lesbian, and heterosexual adults with obsessive-compulsive disorder.

Sexual minority people are at increased risk of psychopathology, including obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), compared with heterosexual people. Prior research has found that sexual minority people are more likely to be diagnosed with or treated for OCD compared with their heterosexual peers, and sexual minority people represent a substantial portion of those in OCD treatment. As such, it is critical to examine potential sexual orientation differences in clinical presentation and treatment outcomes among people with OCD. Among 437 patients in treatment for OCD, we examined OCD severity and r

The Implicit Relational Assessment Procedure as a Measure of Sexual Orientation in Heterosexual, Bisexual, and Lesbian/Gay Men and Women.

Previous research has suggested that scores generated using a sexual orientation Implicit Relational Assessment Procedure (IRAP) correlate with self-reported sexual orientation in gay and heterosexual men and have a strong ability to differentiate the two groups (Timmins et al., 2016). The present study sought to replicate this work and to determine how a range of groups that differ in terms of self-reported sexual orientation perform on the measure. Lesbian/gay, heterosexual, and bisexual women (n = 99) and men (n = 96) completed a sexual orientation IRAP and self-report measures of sexual at

Barriers to and Facilitators of Heterosexual Men's Engagement with the PrEP Care Continuum in Sub-Saharan Africa: A Scoping Review.

The HIV epidemic in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) continues to spread primarily through heterosexual contact, and in many countries, heterosexual men continue to exhibit a high HIV incidence with resultant morbidity and mortality. While there is a growing recognition of the importance of engaging men in the pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) care continuum, there remains a significant gap in our understanding of the multilevel influences that modulate heterosexual's men ability to utilize PrEP. We conducted a scoping review to explore emerging research examining the individual-, interpersonal-dyadic,

Sexual Behaviors and Human Papillomavirus Vaccination in a Heterosexually Active Adult Population at Increased Risk for HIV Infection.

Human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common sexually acquired infection in the US. Vaccination is effective against infection with high-risk HPV strains, yet HPV vaccine coverage is lower in the US than the national target. This study aimed to determine the relationship between sexual behaviors and HPV vaccination in a heterosexually active population at increased risk for HIV infection. Data from 380 participants aged 18-45 years obtained from the National HIV Behavioral Surveillance system increased risk heterosexuals cycle 5 (2019) in Houston, Texas, was analyzed. Same-day use of cigarettes, alcohol, and cannabis among sexual minority and heterosexual young adult smokers.

OBJECTIVE: Sexual minority (SM) young adults have higher rates of substance use than heterosexuals, but little is known about daily use of multiple substances, which confer numerous health risks for this population. Using daily diary data from a smartphone-based study, we examined the associations between sexual identity (i.e., SM vs. heterosexual) and patterns of same-day multiple substance use (i.e., cigarettes and alcohol, cigarettes and cannabis, alcohol and cannabis, and all 3 substances). METHOD: Young adult smokers (N = 147, aged 18-26, 51.7% female, 41.5% SM, 40.8% White) reported con

Beliefs and intention of heterosexual couples about undertaking Couple's HIV Testing and Counselling (CHTC) services in Ethiopia.

BACKGROUND: Couples HIV Testing & Counselling (CHTC) service is an approach that may enable more people to be reached and tested for HIV. However, little is known about how couples may use this service and what they think about CHTC as an approach to finding out their HIV status. This study aimed to understand how individuals who had ever been in an ongoing heterosexual relationship for 6 months or more intended to use CHTC in Ethiopia and their beliefs about its benefits and potential harms. METHODS: Qualitative in-depth interviews were conducted in Addis Ababa, the capital city of Ethiopia,

HIV seroconcordance among heterosexual couples in rural KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa: a population-based analysis.

INTRODUCTION: High levels of HIV seroconcordance at the population level reduce the potential for effective HIV transmission. However, the level of HIV seroconcordance is largely unknown among heterosexual couples in sub-Saharan Africa. We aimed to quantify the population level HIV seroconcordance in stable heterosexual couples in rural South Africa. METHODS: We followed adults (≥15 years old) using a population-based, longitudinal and open surveillance system in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, from 2003 to 2016. Sexual partnerships and HIV status were confirmed via household surveys and annual

Donor IUI is equally effective for heterosexual couples, single women and lesbians, but autologous IUI does worse.

STUDY QUESTION: Are there differences in the clinical outcomes of IUI among different populational groups (heterosexual couples, single women and lesbian couples)? SUMMARY ANSWER: The outcome of donor IUI (D-IUI) is similar in all populational groups and better than that seen with autologous insemination. WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY: A vast body of literature on clinical outcome is available for counselling heterosexual couples regarding decisions related to ART. The reproductive potential of single women, lesbian couples and heterosexual couples who need donor semen is assumed to be better, but t

A comparison of risk factors for various forms of trauma in the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual and heterosexual homeless youth.

Numerous homeless youth experience trauma prior to leaving home and while on the street. Bullying and trading sex (i.e. exchanging sexual favors for survival items such as food) are additional forms of trauma experienced by many homeless youth. Although lesbian, gay, and bisexual (LGB) homeless youth experience higher rates of child abuse compared to their heterosexual counterparts, there is a paucity of research comparing these two groups. As such, we compare whether difficulties finding items of necessity (e.g. food) and different forms of trauma including child sexual abuse, being bullied,
