OBJECTIVE: To describe the clients, operation and impact of an Asian public HIV counselling and testing centre.
DESIGN AND SETTING: Analysis of samples from clients attending the Thai Red Cross Anonymous Clinic (TRC-AC) in Bangkok, Thailand in 1993.
SUBJECTS: HIV-positive and HIV-negative consecutive clients (250 of each).
MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: HIV seroprevalence rates, knowledge, attitudes and behaviour.

OBJECTIVE: To determine the progression rates to AIDS in women in Dublin.
SUBJECTS AND METHODS: 109 HIV-1 seropositive women who presented to the Department of Genitourinary Medicine, St. James's Hospital, Dublin, were included in a retrospective analysis. Of these 101 (93%) were intravenous drug users (IVDUs), 7 were heterosexual partners of IVDUs and one had a hetero-sexual partner of no known risk group. From July 1, 1991 to March 31, 1992, 156 patients (pts) with positive antibody titers to the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) were seen in our clinic. A retrospective review of the epidemiology and infectious complications of these patients is presented. There were 129 males and 27 females (4.8:1, ratio). BACKGROUND: Among Latin America's concentrated HIV epidemics, little is known about men who have sex with men (MSM) in Colombia, the region's third largest country. In recognition of the fact that heterosexism is one of the most significant realities of adolescents' day-to-day experiences in school, this paper examines the school environment in terms of disempowering and empowering aspects. It is argued that failure to take a proactive stance to help youth with gender identity issues is a major cause of psychological problems, leading in some cases to suicide, alcohol and other drug abuse, and homelessness.
