PURPOSE: To report a unique case of Behçet's disease that presented with atypical ocular manifestations.
METHODS: Case report.
RESULTS: A 23-year-old homosexual male presented with bilateral anterior uveitis, vitritis, neuroretinitis and a unilateral superior hemivein occlusion with frosted branch angiitis pattern. These were accompanied by systemic findings of recurrent oral aphthous ulcers, erythema nodosum, and neurological and gastrointestinal involvement. A positive HLA-B51 examination supported the diagnosis of Behçet's disease.

I examined sociodemographic, sexual, and HIV and other sexually transmitted disease risk differences among homosexual- and nonhomosexual-identified men who have sex with men (MSM) in the United States. Non-Mexican Latino ethnicity, marriage or cohabitation, religiosity, and incarceration history were positively associated with being nonhomosexual identified. PURPOSE: To report a case of corticosteroid-induced modulation of acute syphilitic posterior placoid chorioretinitis.
DESIGN: Interventional case report.
METHOD: A 38-year-old homosexual male who presented with a unilateral uveitis secondary to syphilis developed large placoid macular lesions after treatment with oral prednisone that resolved when the corticosteroids were discontinued.

Recent studies suggest that there is an increased incidence of squamous cell carcinoma of the anus in male homosexuals, but a precursor lesion has not been identified. We retrospectively analyzed in a blind fashion all anal tissue removed surgically during 1984. Twelve (6.7%) of the 180 specimens from men contained lesions with foci of epithelial atypia. We used interviews of 268 subjects to ascertain knowledge, attitudes, beliefs and practices related to AIDS among Montrealers of Haitian origin, from November 1987 through October 1988. In previous research, a late birth order has been shown to be a characteristic of Western homosexual transsexual men. To date, however, it is not clear if a late birth order is specific to Western transsexuals or may be a characteristic of non-Western transgendered males as well. A 45-year-old male active homosexual was given a diagnosis of HIV-1 and acute hepatitis B in August 2007. Since his liver function became rapidly impaired, anti-HBV therapy with oral administration of entecavir (ETV) was started, and resulted in a favorable outcome. However, serum concentration of HIV-RNA decreased by log 1.26 within 60 days, which strongly suggested the inhibition of HIV proliferation by ETV. To prevent the appearance of mutated HIV, novel therapeutic strategies should be established in HIV/HBV-coinfected patients.

Two groups of males were evaluated on parameters of gender identity, initially in boyhood and later in adolescence or young adulthood. One group was composed of 66 clinically referred boys whose behaviors were consistent with the diagnosis of gender identity disorder of childhood. The other group consisted of 56 volunteers selected on the basis of demographic matching. Two-thirds of each group were reevaluated for sexual orientation; 30 of the 44 who previously had shown extensive cross-gender behavior and none of the 34 in the comparison group were bisexually or homosexually oriented.

A review of the data on infectivity per contact for transmission of the HIV suggests that the infectivity may be on the order of 0.1-0.3 per anal intercourse in the period of the initial infection, 10(-4) to 10(-3) in the long asymptomatic period, and 10(-3) to 10(-2) in the period leading into AIDS.
