BACKGROUND: To determine whether a symptomatic presentation was associated with parathyroid hyperplasia, we retrospectively examined pre-operative symptom profiles of patients who underwent parathyroidectomy.
METHODS: From October 2007 to July 2008, 111 patients with primary hyperparathyroidism completed a preoperative symptom questionnaire prior to parathyroidectomy. The symptom profiles of patients with and without hyperplasia were compared.

Brunner's gland hyperplasia (BGH) is a diagnostic challenge where in the pathophysiology and natural history remain poorly understood. This Case Report describes BGH arising at the ampulla of Vater, causing abdominal pain and vomiting in a 46-year-old man. Owing to the inconclusive nature of imaging studies and suspicious intraoperative findings, a Whipple resection was performed without any complications. A case of pancreatic polypeptide cell hyperplasia in a 76-year-old man who presented with subacute bowel pseudo-obstruction is reported. A computed tomography scan incidentally showed a pancreatic head lesion that was resected by pancreaticoduodenectomy. Histological examination showed expansion of the endocrine pancreas with increased numbers of pancreatic polypeptide cells in irregularly enlarged islets, ragged endocrine cell clusters, ductulo-insular complexes and microadenomas. The clinicopathological features of this rare and poorly understood condition are discussed.

Adenomatoid hyperplasia belongs to the group of hyperplastic duct lesions of the pancreas. We report a 60-year-old man with adenomatoid hyperplasia of the pancreas, presenting as a mass lesion. The patient underwent pancreatico-duodenectomy uneventfully. The unusual location of the mass in the head of pancreas, the imaging and macroscopic appearance, dense fibrous stroma on histology and prominent expression of p21ras protein point towards a distinct subtype.

BACKGROUND: Sebaceous gland hyperplasia is an epithelial tumour with sebaceous differentiation. Genital involvement is rare. In this paper, we report a new case of sebaceous gland hyperplasia of the vulva.
CASE REPORT: A 27 year-old woman presented multiple polypoid lesions of the lower third of left labium majus. The lesions were soft to the touch, measured 5 cm in length and were painless. The cutaneous biopsy confirmed the diagnosis of sebaceous gland hyperplasia of the vulva. Surgical excision was performed in two separate procedures and was successful.
