Translation, cross-cultural adaptation and validity of the Brazilian version of the Foot and Ankle Ability Measure questionnaire.

PURPOSE: To translate and cross-culturally adapt the Foot and Ankle Ability Measure (FAAM) questionnaire and verify the psychometric properties of the Brazilian-Portuguese version of this instrument. METHODS: Analysis of validity was carried out by applying the Rasch model and evaluating correlations with the Short Form-36 (SF-36) Physical Function (PF) subscale. Test-retest reliability and internal consistency were analyzed with the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC2,1) and Cronbach's alpha tests, respectively. RESULTS: Ninety subjects with various foot and ankle musculoskeletal disor

ICF components of corresponding outcome measures in flexor tendon rehabilitation - a systematic review.

BACKGROUND: The International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) delivers a holistic approach to health conditions. The objective of the present study is to provide an overview of flexor tendon rehabilitation outcome measures with respect to ICF components. Furthermore, it aims to investigate to which extent current assessments measure aspects of health according to these components primarily focussing on activity and participation. METHODS: A systematic literature review was conducted to identify all studies meeting the inclusion criteria. Studies were only included i…

Models of Governance of Disability Therapy Support Workers in Rural and Remote Settings: A Systematic Scoping Review.

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) ushered in a transformative era in disability services in Australia, requiring new workforce … ed health professionals in rural and remote areas. Guided by the social model of disability and the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health, a realist perspective was used to analyse 26 papers (after deduplication), mostly Australian and qualitative, with an emphasis on staff capabilities, training, and credentialling. Success measures were often vaguely defined, with most papers focusi …

Recommendation for measuring clinical outcome in distal radius fractures: a core set of domains for standardized reporting in clinical practice and research.

INTRODUCTION: Lack of standardization of outcome measurement has hampered an evidence-based approach to clinical practice and research. METHODS: We adopted a process of reviewing evidence on current use of measures and appropriate theoretical frameworks for health and disability to inform a consensus process that was focused on deriving the minimal set of core domains in distal radius fracture. RESULTS: We agreed on the following seven core recommendations: (1) pain and function were regarded as the primary domains, (2) very brief measures were needed for routine administration in clinical p

Testing integrated behavioural and biomedical models of activity and activity limitations in a population-based sample.

PURPOSE: The predictive utility of an integrated model of disability is tested. The integrated model incorporates an impairment based model (International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF)) and the behavioural models. METHODS: Community dwelling adults (n = 628) completed a postal questionnaire measuring the integrated model. The ability of the model to predict disability in the form of activity limitations (ALs) and walking, in the full community sample and in respondents reporting chronic pain was tested. RESULTS: In both the community and chronic pain samples each…

[Caring for patients with Alzheimer's disease].

The term "caring" refers to the process aimed at enabling people with disabilities to achieve and maintain optimal functioning. According to the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) proposed by the World Health Organization in 2001, the functioning involves all aspects of daily life and applies to 3 levels: body functions and structures, activities, and participation. Caring is of 2 types; (1) therapeutic care, which restores and maintains the body functions; and (2) compensatory care, which compensates for the impairment of body functions and thus enhances …

[German translation and cross-cultural adaptation of the ASAS health index : An ICF-based instrument for documentation of functional ability in patients with ankylosing spondylitis].

Documentation of the severity of the disease in patients with spondyloarthritis (SpA) can represent a clinical challenge, especially as the course of SpA can be very different. Patients with SpA often complain of symptoms, such as pain, fatigue and stiffness as well as limitations in mental functions and social participation. This wide range of functional impairments could so far only be insufficiently documented and not with one single measurement instrument. Despite various attempts in recent years, experts could not reach agreement on a definition of the severity and documentation of the ex

Mental disorders of people with disability pension in Georgia.

Correct assessment due to mental diseases is rather important. WHO developed International Classification for Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) and there are two approaches to its implementation - development of disease specific or generic core sets. In order to know which way to choose up to date information is needed on disorders that most frequently lead to disability in Georgia. The study aimed at identification of the most prevalent mental diseases that led to disability pension in Georgia in 2010. Cross-sectional study of the population of pension beneficiaries was conducted. We h

Families' perspectives and experiences in using the F-words for Child Development in daily life and services.

PURPOSE: Building on the World Health Organization's International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health (ICF) framework, the "F-words for Child Development" (Functioning, Family, Fitness, Fun, Friends, and Future) provide a holistic, strengths-based perspective on child development and have been adopted by many organizations. This study explores family caregivers' knowledge, attitudes, uses, and perceived barriers and facilitators to using the F-words to support their children's habilitation. Determinants of Employment Outcome for the People with Schizophrenia Using the WHODAS 2.0.

Purpose Since the vocational outcomes of people with schizophrenia should be viewed in a holistic way, the second edition of the World Health Organization Disability Assessment Schedule (WHODAS 2.0) might provide an evaluation regarding employment potential. To determine whether the WHODAS 2.0 scores can be used to predict employment status, we examined the probabilistic cut-off values of the scores and analyzed the relationship between work status and demographic characteristics. Methods We selected 31,793 people aged between 18 and 65 with schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder from the d
