The sensitizing potential of aqueous formaldehyde was evaluated with the guinea pig maximization test (GPMT) in two laboratories (Copenhagen and Stockholm) using different guinea pig strains. Six intradermal (0.01%-3%), and 6 topical (0.5%-20%) concentrations were used for induction, and formaldehyde 1% and 0.1% was used for challenge. Influence of Montenegro skin test for American tegumentar leishmaniasis was evaluated to verify possible interference in serological diagnosis for this disease, performed by immunoenzymatic assay (ELISA). If this interference could occur, it would hamper scientific, epidemiological and patient care; happily we did not find any interference on serological diagnosis by performance of skin testing.

A 38-year-old woman developed symptoms of anaphylactic shock after intravenous atropine and required adrenaline to maintain perfusion pressure. A strongly positive response was obtained on intradermal testing. The Prausnitz-Kuestner test was also positive, which indicated the presence of drug specific IgE antibodies. No response was obtained after hyoscine.

Cutaneous tests used in the diagnostic of allergic alveolitis are reviewed. The results indicate, that cutaneous tests are useful only bird breeders lung. Usually there is dual reaction: 1st type I and 2nd type III. The basic immunologic mechanismus of the skin test results and thereby of the diseases are discussed.

Various delayed-type hypersensitivity reactions have been reported following teicoplanin administration, including drug rash with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS syndrome), and acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis (AGEP). We report a case of an anaphylactic reaction due to a preoperatively administered antibiotic. A 72-year-old man scheduled to undergo cholecy … revealed high serum IgE levels, he was diagnosed as IgE-mediated anaphylactic reaction. Subsequent intradermal tests were tentatively positive to cefoperazone and negative to lidocaine. Surgery was successfully performed using cefotiam, which was also negative in a preoperative intradermal test.

A case-study on 95 inpatients with hydatid disease admitted to a community hospital in Milan is presented. Clinical records from January 1975 through December 1985 were reviewed.
