Dedifferentiated chondrosarcoma (DDCS) is a rare entity, constituting only 1-2% of all primary bone tumors, and has a dismal prognosis. AIMS: To assess whether in oligoastrocytomas ATRX deficiency, as a surrogate of the alternative lengthening of telomeres (ALT) pathway, has a role in predicting the presence or absence of loss of heterozygosity (LOH) of 1p and 19q, the genetic signature of oligodendroglial differentiation and a favourable prognostic marker.
METHODS AND RESULTS: A series of 54 oligoastrocytomas were investigated by immunohistochemistry as well as microsatellite analysis for LOH 1p19q. Genetic findings were correlated with morphological assessment.
CONCLUSIONS: ATRX deficiency was mutually exclusive with LOH.

This study is a histological and clinical investigation of four cases of cerebellar glioblastoma, a rare tumor. The cases included three males and one female, from 33 to 67 years in age (mean 49 years). Tumor resection, postoperative irradiation and chemotherapy were performed in all cases. Two patients died of local tumor recurrence after 14 and 27 months. Three classes of cytochrome a-deficient mutants of Bacillus subtilis have been found to be asporogenic or oligosporogenic.
