Varices in the round ligament are very rare and have only been reported in pregnant women as an inguinal mass normally detected in the third trimester of gestation. B-mode and Doppler color ultrasonography are fundamental tools in the diagnosis, because they make it possible to reach a conclusive diagnosis and to rule out other clinically possible inguinal masses. Given that the treatment is conservative, it is essential for the radiologist to be familiar with this condition and its ultrasonographic characteristics to enable the correct diagnosis and avoid unnecessary surgical exploration.

Patellar tendon ruptures are relatively rare. The rupture may be caused by direct trauma, but is mostly caused by acute or chronic excessive traction force. Degenerative bone/tendon disease may also give rise to rupture. The diagnosis, which usually is not difficult to make, may easily be overlooked when active extension is still possible as may happen in case of a rupture due to an avulsion fracture at the tendon-bone junction. Impaired extension makes operative treatment necessary. Long term follow-up results show excellent function following early repair.

The object of this paper is to report on the findings of a retrospective study of 40 patients with 41 shoulders with persistent painful arc syndrome secondary to a chronic coracoacromial ligament inflammation who underwent simple coracoacromial ligament division at the Toronto East General and Orthopaedic Hospital between January 1973 and June 1979.
